Spring Pools
These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.
The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods---
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away

The Invermere Public Library will be hosting this free program that provides assistance to people who need help filing their 2019 Income Tax Return. For more information about who qualifies to use this free service, visit the Canada Revenue Agency website at: www.cra.gc.ca/volunteer.
Tax assistance will begin in March. If you would like help with your income tax return and you meet the eligibility requirements, contact the library at 250-342-6416 to put your name on the list. When the UFIle system opens, staff will arrange a time for you to meet one on one with a community volunteer.
Now available to put on hold: Indoor Radon Testing Kit
Radon gas is radioactive and comes from naturally occurring uranium in soils and rocks; it is an odorless, tasteless, and colourless indoor air hazard that can lead to serious health issues.
The radon detection kit will be available for three-week loan periods. The digital monitors are extremely easy to use: all one has to do is place the device in a specific area of the home, or work, for three to determine the radon level in that environment. The kits come with information about the gas, factors that influence indoor levels, and strategies to reduce exposure. These kits were donated to libraries in the Kootenay Library Federation by the BC Lung Association.

Come by the library on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 2:00 PM. The tea will be steeping and the conversation will be engaging.

Interlibrary Loan Change Notice
$2.00 FINE TO BE CHARGED FOR UNCLAIMED INTERLIBRARY LOANS
JANUARY 2020
One of the many services that we provide free of charge is interlibrary loans. With this service, patrons are able to request books that we don’t own to be brought in from libraries across British Columbia. In 2018, we brought in almost 3,000 books from other libraries through the interlibrary loan program so it is a very popular program, especially with our local book clubs. While there is no cost for patrons to use this service, it does cost the library to provide this service. Books come and go from libraries through Canada Post so there is postage that we pay for each book and there is staff time involved in processing interlibrary loans to get them ready for our patrons to borrow as well as to send them back to where they came from.
Recently, we have been filling many requests for interlibrary loans that don’t get picked it up. It is disappointing to bring a book in at the expense of the library and to have it sit on the holds shelf unclaimed and eventually send it back without the book ever being borrowed. To help solve this problem, the library will be implementing a fine of $2.00 on unclaimed interlibrary loan requests. This fine will be applied to your account when you request a book from another library and you don’t come to pick it up. This fine also applies to book club books that are requested by members who don’t need the book so please be sure to speak to your book club organizer to make sure you are only asking for a book when you need it.
We have been letting patrons know about this new fine since September and then clearing it, but as of January 1st, the fine will be in full effect.

Book Donations can be made year round at the Book Donation Centre next to the Court House (across the street from the library) for the Friends of the Library's Annual Big Book Sale. Please note the Friends do not accept textbooks, encyclopedia or Reader's Digest.
