By The Numbers: Another Record Year For Organic Agriculture
Together with the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL), we have released the latest annual survey results in "The World of Organic Agriculture". Data shows that the world's organic area continues to grow! Over 71.5 million hectares of land are now organic, representing a 2 million hectare increase. This trend also carries into retail sales. Now Launched: Shared Action Framework For Resilient Seed Systems
Diverse seed systems are central in building resilient and equitable food systems. Recent global challenges have heightened the need to maintain and enhance agricultural biodiversity. The Global Alliance for the Future of Food
addresses this topic in its new Shared Action Framework for Resilient Seed Systems. IFOAM - Organics International was represented in the development of the tool.

Participatory Guarantee Systems: New Materials Now Available
Under the scope of the recent EATingCRAFT (Education Towards the Creation of Alternative Food Networks) project, a team of partners came together to advocate for sustainable food systems rooted in organic agriculture. Among other actions, this work led to the creation of an adult training program for Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) and several new resources.

Organic Researcher William Lockeretz Passes Away at 76
Lockeretz was an early advocate for organic agriculture in the United States, focusing on comparing organic and conventional farming in the country's Midwest. He became involved with IFOAM - Organics International in its infancy and ascribed to the belief that farming systems have to be compatible with the earth's finite number of resources in order to be considered sustainable.

New Book on Organic Food Systems in Africa: Organic Food Systems: Meeting The Needs Of Southern Africa addresses impacts of climate change induced drought on African farmer vulnerability and organic farming's contribution to improved soil fertility and microbiology. The book, edited by Raymond Auerbach, features numerous research articles by him and 32 other authors, and aims advance the uptake of organic agriculture across the continent.
