News from GDS Church

We are delighted to welcome you this Sunday in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you are a visitor, please make yourself known to the welcome team or the minister.

Tomorrow morning our service will be led by our Minister Rev. Peter Barber, supported by the Ministry & Worship Teams. Today we continue our sermon series on 20/20 Vision and what it means for the church.

Events for your diary

Monday 17th February, 1:30pm. The Fellowship in  GDS Gorgie:
We welcome ladies and gentlemen to our friendly weekly meeting, where we share in worship, have a cup of tea and goodies and a chat, and enjoy a variety of speakers and entertainers. Please do join us and bring along a friend! This week, we will hear from the Currie Kirk Singers.

Tuesday 18th February, 7:30pm. Kirk Session in GDS Gorgie:
Elders are reminded of the date of our next Kirk Session meeting which will take place in the small hall at GDS Gorgie. If you are unable to attend please let me know and your apologies will be recorded.

Thursday 27th February, 7:30pm. ‘Take Up…’ in Polwarth Parish Church:
Lent is often seen as a time to ‘Give Up’ something unhealthy, but as Local Churches Together, we believe it is a far better time to ‘Take Up’ a new, healthy practice, such as a Spiritual Discipline. Join us for an evening of worship and workshops where we seek to learn from each other how to draw closer to God this Lent. All are welcome to this Ecumentical Exploration of Spiritual Disciplines which will mark the beginning of Lent.

Friday 28th & Saturday 29th February. ECM Spring Conference Events at St. Catherine's:
Unstuck with Dr Tim Lane:  A 9 step journey to change that lasts - be empowered to break free from unwanted habits and negative thought patterns that don’t seem to go away. This half day conference is intended for pastoral teams, counsellors or support workers aiming to help others become unstuck, or anyone looking for lasting personal change. Doors open 09:00. Two morning sessions. Refreshments and lunch included.

Saturday 29 February 2020: Restless for Mission: 
Come and worship in a welcoming environment, meet with others who are passionate about mission in Edinburgh, hear testimonies of how God is working amongst Edinburgh's people, and learn from Tim about practical ways to connect the gospel to people in real life. A morning and afternoon event for everyone who is restless for mission. Lunch is included in the ticket price. Doors open 10:00. Talk, Testimonies, Workshop, Worship, Prayer Room. Close 4.15pm.

Flower Calendar:
The church flower calendar for 2020 is now available in the foyer. Please feel free to put your name down for your chosen date if you wish to donate flowers for a special reason. Donations for flowers are gratefully received at any time. Please speak to Tricia, Norma or Sandra for more information. Many thanks for your support of the flower ministry.

Church Choir:
Rehearsals for the church choir are on Thursdays, 6.15pm -7.15pm in the Small Hall. Please Note: The next choir practice will be on Thursday 20th February, 6.15pm-7.15pm.

Coffee Morning:
You are warmly invited to join us at our weekly open-door Coffee Morning in the Small Hall at GDS Gorgie on Wednesdays from 10am-11am for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat. The Coffee Morning Team look forward to seeing you there.

Tools with a Mission:
The January 2020 magazine has arrived and is now on the table at the back. Please take one and read about folks in the UK can help and support start up village industries in Africa leading to self-sustaining, self-supporting and self-reliant family income producers.

Treasurer’s Report:
Please support the work of the church through your offerings. After 6 weeks the average collection has been £575 per week compared to £635 in 2019. We have also received £2,439 by standing order in January 2020, compared to £2,412 in January 2019.

We meet

For Corporate Worship
  • Gorgie Church on Sunday mornings at 11am
  • Saltyard for Cafe Church on Sunday evenings, meeting at 6pm for a 6.30pm start

For Prayer

  • On Tuesday through Friday between 12.15 and 12.30 pm in the Saltyard prayer room
  • The Prayer Room at Saltyard is available for individual prayer during Saltyard opening hours
  • On Sunday mornings from 10.15 - 10.45 in Gorgie
  • Once a month for prayer breakfasts held for men and women in Saltyard
For coffee 

Saltyard, our outreach and coffee shop in Dalry is open:
  • 9am – 4pm on Tues – Fri
  • 10am – 4pm on Saturdays
It is a welcoming space for you to enjoy meeting with friends, entertaining children and being a witness on the high street

On Wednesdays, we also meet for our Wednesday coffee in Gorgie from 10am
