Hilburn Skate Night this Friday to support 5th Grade D.C. trip
Come to Hilburn Skate Night this Friday, Feb. 21 at United Skates to support the 5th Grade Field Trip to Washington, D.C.
All Hilburn Hawk students, families and friends are invited to attend. It will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 at United Skates of America, 2901 Trawick Road in Raleigh. Admission is only $5 (normally $7.50) and skate rental is $3.50. Those attending to support the 5th grade fundraiser must identify as Hilburn attendees in order to pay the discounted $5 admission. At least 51 attendees are needed in order for the 5th grade trip fundraising team to earn 50% back on the admission fee. There will be a pizza party that night for the class with the most attendees! Our last skate night in December raised $242.50.

Come to Hilburn Family Night Out on Tuesday, Feb. 25
Hilburn Family Night Out is at The Kitchen Table at Relish on Tuesday, Feb. 25. This FNO lasts all day (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and is dine-in only. The Kitchen Table is located at 5629 Creedmoor Road, next door to Relish. Be sure to tell your server you are there supporting Hilburn, and a percentage of Hilburn sales will be donated to Hilburn PTA. Thanks!

Silver Trout Arts performance

One of our most important PTA programs at Hilburn is Cultural Arts. Students enjoyed performances by Silver Trout Arts this past week. The fourth quarter Cultural Arts performance will be on May 21 featuring the Bacchanal Steel Band's "Island Journey."

"Under the Sea" Middle School Dance on Feb. 28
The Middle School Dance has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 28 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the gym.
The theme is "Under the Sea." Tickets cost $5 (includes entry and two slices of pizza). Cash and checks made out to "Hilburn Academy PTA" will be accepted. If students already bought tickets and cannot make the new date, they can get refunds before school Feb. 26-28. Dance tickets will be sold before school Feb. 26-28 for those who have not already bought them.

WCPSS District 7 BAC meeting rescheduled to Feb. 24
The new date for the WCPSS District 7 Board Advisory Council meeting hosted by Hilburn is 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24.
The Hilburn community is invited, as are parents and teachers from all District 7 schools. The topic will be Social Emotional Learning including Community Resilience Model and Restorative Circles. Presenters will be Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, Dr. Marrius Pettiford, Senior Director of Counseling and Student Services, and Principal Mariah Walker of Hilburn Academy. School Board Representative Chris Heagarty will update on current school board issues.

Random Acts of Kindness Week is Feb. 24-28
Please read this message from the Hilburn counseling team about Random Acts of Kindness Week:
Get ready for our annual Random Acts of Kindness Week February 24-28: a seriously fun week when we encourage everyone to do as many kind acts as possible! Classes will also be challenged to complete a Kindness Checklist. This list includes simple things such as smiling at 10 people, picking up trash, etc. Additionally, each day we will issue a school-wide kindness challenge – one for school and one at home. For example, clean up their desks at school, and clean up their rooms at home - without being told. You can also take up the kindness challenge as a family – here is the link to the family challenge.
We would also like to put together a “snack wagon” and surprise staff by delivering drinks and snacks to their rooms on the first day of RAK week (Feb. 24), so we are asking for donations of the items below. If you are able to make a donation, please feel free to send them in with your child and ask them to drop off in either the counselor’s office or the front office (put our names on it please). We will collect through Thursday, Feb. 20.
Items for donation:
Any individually wrapped snacks: trail mix, chips, crackers, nuts, granola bars, candy, etc.
Fruit (bananas, apples, oranges) - please wait to send in on Feb 20-21
Sparkling water
Bottled water
