Manhattan Honors Susan B. Anthony On Her 200th Birthday
Monumental Women and Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer honored Susan B. Anthony on the eve of her 200th Birthday in Madison Square Park on February 14th with a pre-Birthday Party.
The event celebrated the life and accomplishments of the pioneering feminist, woman suffrage leader, abolitionist, author and activist. Borough President Brewer issued a proclamation declaring February 15th, Anthony’s actual birth day, as "Susan B. Anthony Day" in Manhattan.
Later this year as you know, Anthony, Sojourner Truth and Elizabeth Cady Stanton will be immortalized in our Women’s Rights Pioneers Monument, to be unveiled in Central Park on August 26, the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment when women won the right to vote. Monumental Women's statue will be the first to depict real, nonfictional women in Central Park.
