Description
There is a part of each of us that remembers who we are and why we’re here. This part of us speaks, in many different ways, and is called forth by our attention. As we turn towards it, we begin to hear a voice that rings with a clarity of truth, and resonates differently from the rest. This voice tells the story of what’s truly meaningful in our lives. We’re invited to pick up this thread and follow it. New thoughts and feelings open. New perspectives and questions – doorways towards a deeper experience of purpose and connection, and authentic pathways forward.

In this workshop we will practice listening to this voice and inviting it to speak. Using the tools of creative writing and intentional dialogue we’ll practice listening both to ourselves, and to each other, observing how our attention holds a space for newly emerging meaning. We’ll work with the power of story-telling and poetry and explore what it means for language to be alive – how words can reach beyond intellect and conventional speech to carry vital worlds of heart, soul and spirit.

TRICKS OF THE TRADE: A Magician’s Show and Tale
A One Man Magic Show in Philmont and Hudson to benefit Free Columbia
Long term Rhinebeck resident performs at Lightforms Art Center and at the Philmont Public Library
Andy Weintraub, Rhinebeck’s resident magician, presents TRICKS OF THE TRADE: A Magician’s Show and Tale at Lightforms Art Center, 743 Columbia St, Hudson NY, April 4 at 7pm and at the Philmont Public Library April 15 at 2 pm. This solo performance presents the magician’s artistry within the context of Andy’s life. His biography is distinguished by how his life experiences have influenced his magic, and how magic has influenced his life. These personal recollections are conveyed through multiple theatrical art forms: classic magic routines, puppetry, mental gymnastics, playing cards, and psychokinetic effects.
The show at Lightforms will entertain both adults and children. The show at the library will be shorter and aimed at children.
As one of the founders of both The Rhinebeck Theatre Society and The CENTER for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck, Andy has been active in the local theater community as an actor, director, and lighting and set designer and builder. He is also the creator of Grumpus Magic, a magic show presented during Rhinebeck’s annual Sinterklaas celebration.
TRICKS OF THE TRADE: A Magician’s Show and Tale has many opportunities for audience participation but is not recommended for children below the age of 7.
Tickets: suggested donation $5-15 at the door, or they may be reserved by calling 518 672 7302 Email: laurasummer@taconic.net
