Principal's News
Dear Parents and Caregivers

It's amazing how fast we have settled back into a routine after a long break. Our students are back hosting assembly and what a fantastic job the Room 2 speakers did. They spoke with confidence and adapted quickly to the audience in the room.

The teachers are back checking on lunch boxes as there is an increase in the number of requests for sandwiches at the office and 30 plus students are back having breakfast at Breakfast Club. This is a bit of a worry for us here at school. Either there is not enough in the lunch box to start with or the pre-made sandwiches are more appealing than the items in the lunch boxes.

Packet food does not sustain growing bodies. They need a range of fresh food including fruit. Dry noodles are not a good option for school students as we are unable to add hot water to them to cook them.

The teachers hosted a meet the teacher evening last Thursday. Numbers were on the low side for a community event. The teachers reported back that they had positive and informed conversations with the parents they met and it worked well for families heading off to the Intermediate for their evening. Coming to talk with the class teacher is a beneficial thing for both teachers and parents. You get a chance to clarify all the things your child is saying at home and if they are accurate.

Angel Chauval has given out all the new bus tags. I understand that these are being checked as students enter the bus. I think this is a good step so that all students on the buses are meant to be there. A student is only able to travel on their designated bus home. They cannot swap to another bus for a play date or to get a ride into town. If their name is on the bus roll for a set bus that is the only bus they can travel on. If your child has not received their bus tag please contact the school office and we will get this sorted for you.

The buses are also running later on some days. We have asked why this is happening and the town Bus Controller based at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College has informed us this is due to the increase of traffic on Spa Road and the integration of traffic through the roundabout and the new traffic lights.

I have had a request for household items that you may have lying around at home. One of our new support staff would like to make some sensory boards for the school.
We need:
  • Old shoelaces
  • Buckles
  • Old light switches
  • Door handles
  • Locks and keys
  • Sandpaper
  • Old screwdrivers
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Washers
It has been great to see the number of students with their hats on when they are outside. Our sun policy means this continues until the last day of Term 1.

The dates for the terms are:

Term One
Monday February 3 to Thursday April 9
Term Two
Tuesday April 28 to Friday July 3
Term Three
Monday July 20 to Friday September 25
Term Four
Monday October 12 to Friday December 11

There is a teacher only day on Friday May 15, 2020.

If your child is going to be absent for an extended period of time please tell Val and Rhonda via email. This helps us to keep track of where all students are at all times.

Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts. It looks like there is a change in the weather coming.
