Happy {Belated} Valentine's Day, friends!
Here is my sweet, February PTYAY Love Letter to you. I hope you know how much I adore the work you do and the time you spend making your school a welcoming, engaging and loving place for your students and families. You are making a difference every day.
So much has happened since our last newsletter.
Several leaders from across the District attended the Virginia PTA Annual Meeting in Richmond, as well as Capitol Day at the General Assembly. Both were great learning opportunities and I hope you plan to join us in the future. Jen Travis put together a compilation of pictures to highlight the weekend. Next year will mark the 100th year of Virginia PTA and the Annual Meeting will be held March 20, 2021. Mark your calendars now to join us in celebration!
We've announced the District winners of Reflections and want to congratulate all our entrants! Invitations will be going out to all our Reflections, Citizenship Essay and Power Plates entrants to join us on April 29 for a Student Awards Ceremony. If you had students participate, please be on the lookout for that and plan to attend.
It was so lovely to see so many of you at the Winter Roundtable on Feb 5. I greatly appreciate Dr. Williams offering his time to attend our meeting and present the Adopted Budget to us. We were the first group to be given a presentation following the adoption, so it was a very nice opportunity for our leaders to see what LCPS is prioritizing and the adjustments that were made the night before. If you were unable to make it, I have uploaded the agenda, minutes, presentation and Dr. Williams presentation to our website for your review.
Congratulations to Sanders Corner ES PTA, Seldens Landing ES PTA and Belmont Station ES PTA for winning the Powerful PTA raffle drawing of $200! We look forward to hearing from you at our final meeting of the year (April 22) to hear how you used the money!
Finally, I have been working with LCPS on a second Parent Information Session. This one will be focused on Family Engagement and the resources that are available to families throughout the county. We will have a panelist of speakers including the Parent Liaisons, Student Assistance Specialists, Family and Community Engagement Coordinator (PEP Program), Social Workers and the Parent Resource Center. This will be held March 25, 2020 at 6pm at Sterling Middle School. This event is open to EVERYONE and I encourage and ask you all to attend. This will be an open dialogue and a place to ask questions and learn about resources that are available to assist in the success of every child.
Things to know this month:
- Nominating Committee - This month, you should begin to find your NomCom, per Article 6 in your bylaws. We have all the information you need for a successful election - visit the Virginia PTA website.
- CHECK YOUR BYLAWS DATE - many of your PTAs are due for the 5 Year Revision this year. Give yourself plenty of time to submit! Need help? We've got you covered.
- Friday Facebook Spotlight - SHOW ME THE MONEY - Or really, the awesome things you are doing. Email Amanda to share what you are up to or invite us to attend! We'd love to stop by!
With PTyAy Love,
Kirsten
