My access was denied to my Mailchimp account for a few months. Luckily, we (the Mailchimp staff and I) were able to dialogue, problem solve, determine that there was no malicious activity and get my account running again. [Wouldn't it be nice if this kind of rapprochement could happen on a national level!!]  So . . . there is a bit of catching up in this missive.
Ignited, from my Freedom Series, is in the Yellowstone Art Museum's Art Auction 52.

The works in my Freedom Series explore physical representations of energy released from constraint, or ... are my reactions to reading the news. Both are correct.
I am grateful to ForFreedoms.org for the stipend that enables Alaina Buffalo Spirit, Marci McLean, Dylan Running Crane and me to be part of, what will be, a high-energy, sharing, engaging series of artist-led programs, workshops and conversations . . . The For Freedoms Congress in Los Angeles, next week.

In the fall 2018, I pulled together some local activations for the For Freedoms 50 States Initiative. Our foursome will build on this and be looking at ways to create art-based amplifications of Native issues throughout our tribal nations in Montana and connecting to other events which encourage dialogue here and across the country

The Montana Warrior Women (thank you to Alaina for our name):

Alaina Buffalo Spirit is a member of the Northern Cheyenne tribe, who creates Ledger Art. This form of art began in the 1860's when tribal warriors were imprisoned at Ft. Marion, Florida. She is active in bringing attention and solutions to Missing and Murdered Indigenous People and environmental challenges on her people's land.

Marci McLean, who is Piikuni, is the Executive Director of Western Native Voice, a non-profit, non-partisan social justice organization working to move Native leaders to engage Native Americans in long term decision making to address issues in their communities.

Dylan Runinng Crane is a Blackfeet filmmaker, musician, writr and student working to shed light on the life, happiness, and humanity of indigenous people.

Sherri Cornett is an artist curator who combines her political science and art to create opportunities for dialogue and community building.

I would love to see my artist friends and their art from around the country at this exhibition in my home town. I have no official part in this, but could organize a celebratory gathering . . .

The Yellowstone Art Museum celebrates the 2020 centennial of women’s suffrage with a series of exhibitions foregrounding diverse perspectives applied to creative work. This year’s North x Northwest exhibition will be organized under the theme of “Women’s Work.” We anticipate that the exhibition will include work focused on women’s perspectives, media traditionally defined as feminine, art that honors the social and political contributions of women, and art that highlights women’s often invisible labor. The juror is Jill Ahlberg Yohe, Associate Curator of Native American Art at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In 2008, Ahlberg Yohe received her PhD from the University of New Mexico; her dissertation focused on the social life of weaving in contemporary Navajo life. Along with Teri Greeves, Jill co-curated Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists. At Mia, Jill seeks new initiatives and to expand understanding and new curatorial practices of historical and contemporary Native art.

Exhibition Opening Reception: Thursday, May 28th, 2020, 6-8 p.m.

As their art advisor, I have loved seeing the a-ha moments as these Quest students make the connections between their research topic, key words, symbols, recycled materials and how to use design elements to bring a viewer's attention to their assemblage works so that they can then engage the viewer about that topic. Over 200 students will be displaying and talking about their work at First Church during the April Art Walk. Need some inspiration, a shot of joy, hope for the future? Come by.
Despite the cold, my December Open Studio, which focused on some of my community-engaged projects, brought in a steady stream of Art Walkers. Far-ranging conversations... about city/county planning and community building and memory and collaborations and supporting family members and making mustard and graphic novels and how to depict water and being our true selves and very sweet discussions, with children, about how I could expand my projects. Thank you all who came by (or was it just for the delicious and spicy Mexican hot chocolate?!)  Shown: Home Grove  and What [(Is It) About My] Memory
My works, and their intricate shadows, looked stunning in the Waterworks Museum in Miles City last fall. Thank you to Dixie Rieger and Bonny Beth Luhman for including them in this show!
