Newsletter February 16, 2020

Quick Draw 2020 is just a memory now of a whirlwind of a day. It was very warm and sunny and full of excitement. Artists started setting up their easels around 8:00 am and having their canvases/papers stamped at check-in. By 9:00 am they were off to the races, painting the beautiful landscapes of Phillippi Estate Park, in Sarasota.
Within 2 hours their paintings were completed and at 11:00 am they were rushing back to set up their easels with their paintings, ready for the judging that started at 12:00 pm. Congrats to the new participants for their courage in entering we hope it was a fun experience.

Our wonderful Quick Draw Judge, Joseph Melancon, had quite a challenge before him to pick the winners from not only our adult participants, but for the 1st time this year, we had students from Ringling College of Art and Design enter in a special student division.
Our Featured Artist, Katie Dobson Cundiff, who teaches at Ringling College, had students from her class join us in this event to broaden their artistic experience.
After 12:00 pm the awards were announced and prizes were given out to the excited winners.
The paintings were on display and offered for sale to the attending public.

Many Thanks to Lynn Wallin, who so beautifully organizes our Quick Draw Contest every year. She sees to every detail, and makes this event run so smoothly, even in the midst of the busy atmosphere of the Phillippi Estate Park Farmers Market! Lynn and her team of Volunteers worked tirelessly to see that every artist and every painting had a place in the festivities.

We would like to extend our special thanks to Priscilla Brown of Phillippi Estate Park and Sarasota County for providing the venue for our Quick Draw Contest.

Also Many Thanks to Fred and Grace Whitehouse of the Friends of Sarasota County Parks for all their help in making this event possible!
