Heaviness returns to our hearts and I have lowered our Club's burgee to half-staff to mark the sudden passing of longtime Club Member Bill Buchbinder at the age of 70.
Bill and Cheri joined our club in 1977, when Bill was just 28 years old. They have been mainstays at our Club for these 43 years and were elevated to Life Member status last year.
Whether on soft water or hard, Bill shared an incredible passion for sailing. He was a simple, straight forward person. When the Club moved into the 21st century and went to a web-based membership system, our members were asked to share about themselves and their families in the Biography section of the member profile. Bill's simply reads, "I make sails."
Those of us that were lucky enough to call him a friend, knew that he could make far more than that with some canvas, a needle and thread. I wouldn't be surprised to hear if over half of us have more than one thing Billy has made or repaired for us in his shop.
