"Every Corner Transfigured"

Leviticus 19:1-2, 9-18
Matthew 17:1-9

This coming Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday, on which we celebrate and commemorate the transfiguration of Christ, where he was revealed in the fullness of his glory to Peter, James, and John on Mount Tabor. Another of the readings for the seventh Sunday after Epiphany is from Leviticus, where Moses instructs the people how they are to work their fields in the Promised Land: they are to leave the corners (Hebrew: pe'ah) unharvested so that the hungry might glean there and be fed. What do the Transfiguration and the Pe'ah commandment reveal about the nature of God and God's vision of shalom for all creation? We hope you can join us as Pastor Bobbi leads us in worship.

Worship online with Living Stream Church of the Brethren on Sunday at 8:00 pm Eastern time; 7:00 pm Central; 6:00 pm Mountain; 5:00 Pacific time. Or you may access the recorded archives of our worship at www.livingstreamcob.org any time that suits your schedule.

Last Sunday evening in worship Pastor Enten shared the reading posted above and also shared this hymn text:

O God, Come Sunday Morning
LLANGLOFFAN 7.6.7.6 D ("Lead On, O King Eternal")

O God, come Sunday morning, we offer you our praise.
We pray and take an offering; we seek to know your ways.
We love each morning service, yet wonder, when it's through:
Lord, did you even notice our honoring of you?

On Monday, children hunger; on Tuesday, victims cry.
On Wednesday, gunshots thunder, and so the days go by.
Indifferent, even scorning, we turn from neighbors' pain,
And then on Sunday morning, we worship you again.

O Lord, you spoke through prophets and told us what you seek;
For this is faithful worship — to help the poor and weak,
To work to bring your justice, to give the hungry bread.
In this we honor Sabbath — when all your world is fed.

We hear your wondrous promise, that as we follow you,
You'll make of us a garden to bless the world anew.
We trust what you have spoken — that joy and worship meet
When we repair the broken, when we restore the streets.

“War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today.”  --Letter to a Navy friend, quoted in Arthur M. Earlier we shared with you the first three readings in the joint program “Black History 2020: Looking Back to Live Forward” led by Rev. Please respond to this survey
Living Stream Church of the Brethren is a part of the Pacific Northwest District of the Church of the Brethren which is in the midst of prayer and discernment regarding the future of the ministries of the District.
As a part of that process, all participants of congregations of the PNW District are being asked to complete an online survey that will serve as a resource for a Spring Discernment Event, March 6-7, at Camp Koinonia.

The survey is on-line at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PNWBrethren. This is not exclusively for members, but for anyone who participates in the life of one of the district faith communities. Even people who cannot or do not choose to attend the March event have a critical role in charting our future by simply completing the survey.
All responses need to be submitted by February 28, 2020. Thank you.
From your chats on February 16. As Pastor Enten spoke about "Another Way of Living"  the chat board came alive with your comments:
Rick Polhamus -Enten, You made me think of the quote "Don't tell me what you believe. Show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.."
Eric Miller - I am struggling with conflicting goals, being particular but universal, having clarity but being open to views of others (i.e. conservatives).
Mary Gorsline - I love the examples you have given, following Jesus. I find the current situation is frightening. But I don't have to act on the state or national level. I can start by how I conduct myself at my personal level.
Colleen Michael - This makes me thankful that I made the decision last week to participate in the Death Row Support Project as a 'pen pal'.......my partner in this ministry has been on Death row since 1999.
Janice Crist - Growing up in the Mennonite tradition, being peculiar meant looking different. I like how you presented being pecuiiar is how we live.
Barbra Davis -  I was a BVSer in Israel/Palestine in the 90's doing street art with children in Acca. Some girls asked me if I was Jewish, Christian or Muslim. I asked them who they thought I was. They  said you are not Jewish because you are here with us. You are not Muslim because you get down on the ground and play with us. You must be Christian. I loved how they came to know me.
Joe Detrick - Fun fact: "A Pecular People" was the National Youth Speech contest theme in 1962 or 63.
Mary Gorsline - I appreciate the uplifting, and heartening message. I need to be reminded I can pray for people in the government who lost their way.
