Coffee is the heartbeat and life blood of your community and in most everyone’s lives. It welcomes the morning in with us and draws us towards one another. Coffee is at the center of our tables while we discuss current events and reflect on moments held important in our lives. Coffee isn’t just American either. It is a tradition all over the world and lends itself to easily becoming a new tradition for those it is not. It is to our great advantage to use this common love in a way that fosters greater community bonds and participation. Design activities around coffee. Throw a Coffee Party with a variety of coffees served, roast your own coffee beans, host a Coffee Month with different coffee demonstrations held each week or serve coffee from a different country each week. The possibilities are endless.

Brew the COFFEE and they will come!

You and your resident may not be drawing out the Eiffel Tower in your foam lattes, or even making foam lattes for that matter, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while you try. This is an easy, cheat method to get you guys going for a fun time. I have included some examples at the end to inspire you should you or some of your residents want to take things further…and you happen to have room in your budget for an actual expresso maker! The important thing is to embrace coffee with your planning and show it the same love it has been showing all of us our whole lives through.

Easy Foam
Whipped cream makes a fine stand in for foam and it holds up pretty good. Make sure you buy whole milk whipped cream, not skim or 2%.

Activity Directors Network was founded in 1996 on the idea that we could help create elderly care that dramatically improved the lives of those we all serve. Activity Directors are the key to creating environments that we ourselves would be excited to live in. We envision facilities that feel like homes, not institutions. Facilities that celebrate our resident’s individuality and allows them to live with dignity, purpose and joy. We believe providing the best education available, with the most talented teachers we can find, is the way to make an impact. Each and every single one of you are the revolution that is changing everything. Thanks for being a part of The Network.
