Hawk Mascot names
Thanks so much for all your Hawk mascot name submissions! The 25th Anniversary Committee has narrowed down the list to four names. EVERYONE at school will have a chance to vote in class for the name they want for the Hawk! Start thinking about your favorite now. Here are the finalists:

4. Harley
Will it be Henrietta, Hank, Hilburt or Harley the Hawk? Students will get to decide this spring!
New Hawk mural by the cafeteria
Watch for a new Hawksome 25th Anniversary mural designed by art teacher Ms. Cleveland that will be painted this spring! We're excited to see a blank wall transformed into awesome art. Thank you, Ms. Cleveland!
Hawk teacher and student alumni are invited to Homecoming on April 30

Come to Hilburn Family Night Out on Tuesday
Hilburn Family Night Out is at The Kitchen Table at Relish on Tuesday, Feb. 25. This FNO lasts all day (9 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and is dine-in only. The Kitchen Table is located at 5629 Creedmoor Road, next door to Relish. Be sure to tell your server you are there supporting Hilburn, and a percentage of Hilburn sales will be donated to Hilburn PTA. Thanks!

WCPSS District 7 BAC meeting rescheduled for tonight, Feb. 24
The new date for the WCPSS District 7 Board Advisory Council meeting hosted by Hilburn is 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24.
The Hilburn community is invited, as are parents and teachers from all District 7 schools. The topic will be Social Emotional Learning including Community Resilience Model and Restorative Circles. Presenters will be Paul Koh, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, Dr. Marrius Pettiford, Senior Director of Counseling and Student Services, and Principal Mariah Walker of Hilburn Academy. School Board Representative Chris Heagarty will update on current school board issues.

"Under the Sea" Middle School Dance this Friday
The Middle School Dance is this Friday, Feb. 28 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the gym.
The theme is "Under the Sea." Tickets cost $5 (includes entry and two slices of pizza). Cash and checks made out to "Hilburn Academy PTA" will be accepted. If students already bought tickets and cannot make the new date, they can get refunds before school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Dance tickets will be sold before school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for those who have not already bought them.

5th Grade D.C. trip fundraisers:
Hilburn Skate Night rescheduled to this Friday
Because of the snow and school closing last week, Hilburn Skate Night fundraiser for the 5th Grade D.C. trip has been rescheduled to this Friday, Feb. 28 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at United Skates of America, 2901 Trawick Road in Raleigh. All Hilburn Hawk students, families and friends are invited. Admission is only $5 (normally $7.50) and skate rental is $3.50. Those attending to support the 5th grade fundraiser must identify as Hilburn attendees in order to pay the discounted $5 admission. At least 51 attendees are needed in order for the 5th grade trip fundraising team to earn 50% back on the admission fee. There will be a pizza party that night for the class with the most attendees! Our last skate night in December raised $242.50.
Hurricanes tickets raffle
The 5th Grade D.C. Field Trip Fundraising Committee will be selling raffle tickets for the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Ottawa Senators game on March 21.
Raffle Tickets: Center Ice Premier tickets (4 tickets) and Premier Parking Pass for the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Ottawa Senators on Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m. The tickets have a Face Value of $450.
Sales: Raffle ticket sales will be CASH only.
Location: There will be a 2-week selling period. Raffle tickets will be sold the week of 2/24 and the week of 3/2 during the morning (7:30-8:15 a.m) and afternoon (2:45-3:30 p.m). There will be a table setup to handle sales in the lobby/carpool. Raffle tickets will also be sold during STEAM Night on March 5.
Cost: Raffle tickets will sell for 1 ticket for $5; and 3 for $10.
Drawing: The drawing will be on March 6. This allows time for the tickets to be picked up before the game on March 21.

It's Random Acts of Kindness Week
Random Acts of Kindness Week is this week! It's a fun week when we encourage everyone to do as many kind acts as possible! Classes will also be challenged to complete a Kindness Checklist. This list includes simple things such as smiling at 10 people, picking up trash, etc. Additionally, each day counselors will issue a school-wide kindness challenge – one for school and one at home. For example, clean up their desks at school, and clean up their rooms at home - without being told. You can also take up the kindness challenge as a family – here is the link to the family challenge. Counselors will surprise staff with a snack wagon. Thanks so much to everyone who sent in items for it!
