Let's Learn About...
When talking about football in Victoria, you could be forgiven for thinking we mean AFL, but this month we are learning all about another type of football - the round ball type!

Football, or soccer as it is commonly known in Australia, is played by 250 million players in over 200 countries, making it the world's most popular game - and for good reason. Football is fun and easily adaptable. It can be played with minimal equipment, almost any number of players, and with players of all abilities.

So, whether you call it football, soccer, or the world game, let's learn all about inclusive football in Victoria!

Love Sport? Let's learn about... Football Victoria

Football’s inclusive nature

FootbALLways is the strategic plan for Football Victoria going forward and it’s about uniting, inspiring, and enabling Victorians of ALL backgrounds to live and love football, for life. One of the core values of Football Victoria is inclusiveness. It is our priority to ensure that our sport is accessible to people of all genders and abilities. Football Victoria offer a variety of football programs for people living with a disability. Have a read of our programs below and get in contact with us!

Join a competition!
All Abilities League - Metro & Geelong
We run two All Abilities competitions across Victoria, one in metro Melbourne and one based in Geelong. It is a 5-a-side and 7-a-side club-based competition played outdoors on Saturday mornings. Participants can join a local community club and play football in a team sport environment. The competitions are split across age groups and social/competitive divisions to suit different needs and skills.

Wheelchair Football

The Wheelchair Football Competition is based at Springers Leisure Centre in Keysborough. It is also a club-based competition where players can join a club and play in the 4-a-side competition. It is open to anyone who uses a wheelchair – electric or manual, independently or assisted.

Powerchair Football

In partnership with the Victorian Electric Wheelchair Sports Association (VEWSA), Football Victoria supports the 2020 Victorian Powerchair Premier League that showcases three sports: football, hockey, and rugby. The competition is played in Croydon on Sunday afternoons.

Program Opportunities
Schools
Football Victoria run school programs throughout Term 2 and 3 with the Southern Special School Sports Association and Northern Special School Sports Association. Each association consists of 10-15 Special Schools across Melbourne and participate in football as part of their sports program during the school day. Students range from year 8 – 10 in this program.
Blind Football
Football Victoria also partners with Blind Sports Victoria to support the Blind Football Teens program, and a 6-week football clinic was recently conducted for young people with vision impairment.
Blind Football is categorised into three classification; B1 are players who are totally blind, B2 and B3 are players who have varying degrees of vision impairment. Modifications of the game can include an audible ball which produces a rattling sound as it travels and smaller sized pitches with wooden boards surrounding the border.

On top of the teen program, there is a blind football training program that runs on Sundays in North Melbourne run through the Melbourne Blind Football Club.

Pathway Opportunities
Finally, Football Victoria support and offer pathway programs for football players who wish to pursue a higher level of competition and to represent Victoria or Australia.
