Here's a little bio about our speaker!
February 18, 2020 Speaker - Ryan Smith - Small Scale Beekeeping
Meeting starts at 7pm
At a young age, Ryan was introduced to beekeeping. With the opportunity to visit a neighbor who had a large apiary, he learned about the importance of bees, what they do for our earth, and how fascinating they indeed are.
Now, as an adult, with his very own bees and hives, he has a passion for educating others about the importance of bees and the role that they play in our continuously changing climate. This passion has turned from a fascination to a hobby, and now to a family business to make a difference in the beekeeping community and future generations. Consistently studying and learning the best practices of beekeeping is a priority.
Ryan is active in the Maryland State & Anne Arundel County beekeeping associations and the beekeeping community. He has been a beekeeper for close to 10 years and he is currently working to become an EAS certified Master Beekeeper. He is the owner of HoneySmith Bees which is located locally in Odenton, MD with a working apiary of close to 100 hives in the peak of the season. They specialize is VSH Queen breeding and Nuc production and also offer pollination services to local Maryland farmers. Ryan operates HoneySmith Bees in addition to his full-time job as a subject matter expert for the US Secret Service. Where he has been for over a decade.
