Some self-optimization updates including analyzing a year of my Ōura sleep data, my biohacking book list, and more

In the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, researchers coined a newly observed condition called orthosomnia—a "perfectionist quest to achieve perfect sleep."

1 Year of Oura Sleep Data

Although I track my sleep daily (often using several devices), I use this data to identify general trends rather than obsess over how much REM stage sleep I did or didn’t get the previous night. In fact, I waited until after the new year to conduct a deeper analysis. Check out my latest post to see how it’s possible to dig into sleep data:

📈 Sleep Tracking: Analyzing a Year of My Ōura Sleep Data
Sleep by day of week

I spent some time analyzing my sleep data from last year, which provided some interesting insights into daily and seasonal variability in sleep patterns (overall I averaged 6.32 hours of sleep per night, with the most sleep in winter and least in summer). Check out my post for a deeper analysis!

The Best Biohacking Books

Back in 2010 I came across a book called The 4-Hour Body by Tim Ferriss that heavily inspired my pursuit of self-optimization via self-experimentation. So what about today? I have compiled a list of what I feel are the best books on the subjects of biohacking and self-optimization, from great general books for beginners and curiosity seekers to more advanced topics like breathwork, quantum biology, physiological regulatory systems, and structured water. Enjoy!

Sonic Sleep Coach App

Speaking of sleep, want even more out of your Ōura Ring? My friend Daniel Gartenberg PhD developed an app called Sonic Sleep Coach that now seamlessly augments the device (also works with all major sleep trackers like Apple Watch, Biostrap, Garmin, Beddit, etc.). Learn more here. They even provide a sleep coaching service.

👍 That's all for now! Please let me know if there are any topics you would like to see me cover in the future, and as always feel free to connect with me on InstagramTwitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Stay optimal,
