Councilman and State Senate Candidate Mike Brownrigg Sweeps District 13’s Most Coveted Press Endorsements

Editorial Boards of Every Major Newspaper in on Peninsula Choose Brownrigg

Burlingame, California – Councilman Mike Brownrigg, candidate for State Senate, today announced that he has received endorsements from every major, Peninsula-based newspaper.  As of today, the San Mateo Daily Journal, the Palo Alto Daily Post, the Palo Alto Weekly, the Mountain View Voice and the Menlo Park Almanac have endorsed Brownrigg.  In addition, Brownrigg received the endorsement of KHMB Radio.

“I am proud to be the choice of every major newspaper in our District,” said Brownrigg. “These editorial boards know our cities and communities so well and they are not beholden to anyone. I appreciate so much their confidence and belief in me as an independent, pragmatic, collaborative leader. These papers serve the people of District 13 as I will – looking out for and representing the public's interests without compromise.”

From Daily Post

“We think Michael Brownrigg, an 11-year member of Burlingame City Council and two-time mayor, is the right choice based on his independence, achievements and strong record on fiscal responsibility.” “The Daily Post is proud to recommend Brownrigg for state Senate.”

From the Mountain View Voice

“Brownrigg doesn't hedge on controversial issues; he has been a clear-spoken promoter of creative solutions to problems facing the state.” “He has devoted his career to finding solutions to difficult problems.”

From the Almanac

“The big problems facing California, including housing supply and affordability, homelessness, climate change, income inequity, the costs of higher education, and the education achievement gap require more innovation and bipartisanship and less political muscling and horse trading.” "We think Mike Brownrigg, 58, comes the closest to meeting this criteria.”

From the Daily Journal

“We can trust Brownrigg. He has proven to be a capable listener, who gathers information and acts in the public’s best interest.” “He will be a fighter for the environment.” “Like Hill, he will be an effective and independent representative in the state Senate during a very pivotal time for this district. He is simply our best choice.”

From the Palo Alto Weekly

“Our district is best represented by an independent-minded person with bold ideas who will not be influenced by special interests or march in lock-step with the Governor…we think Mike Brownrigg best meets these criteria.”

From KHMB

“Mike Brownrigg has a proven record of successful public service – from working in the nation’s Diplomatic Service to serving two terms as Burlingame’s mayor.  Mike Brownrigg gets it – and will get things done, proudly following in the footsteps of Senator Jerry Hill. That is why we endorse Mike Brownrigg for California State Senate.”

Brownrigg plans to bring his extensive experience and record of getting things done to the State Senate. His campaign for State Senate has over 750 community supporters and a growing list of endorsements from prominent local elected officials, including over 35 mayors and former mayors, and over 50 other elected officials. And, the campaign has been hosted at more than 110 house parties across the District.

Brownrigg is one of the top fundraisers in the race of five candidates. His campaign ended the financial reporting period with a total of $640,000 in contributions.

Brownrigg is a 10-year Burlingame City Council Member, two-term Mayor and served eight years on the Planning Commission. Under his leadership, Burlingame expanded child and senior care, added more affordable housing and opened new parks and schools. Prior to elected office, Brownrigg worked as a congressional aide for Democratic U.S. Rep. Howard Berman and served in the executive branch as a diplomat in the Foreign Service. Professionally, Brownrigg is a partner in a social impact investment firm that helps improve underserved communities around the world. He and his wife, Marty, a pediatrician, live in Burlingame where they are raising their four children. Mike's a problem solver and consensus builder who is focused on addressing key issues facing state senate district 13 and California. He was among the first to shine a light on the affordability crisis affecting families in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. He knows too many families are forced to choose between health care and a roof over their heads. That's why he'll fight to solve the affordability crisis by expanding housing options, bring down the cost of childcare and health care and expand four-year public university choices in our area to keep our kids learning and working here. He'll work to ensure California remains a leader on climate change and waste reduction.
