[Trumpets prelude here] Decatur Makers announces a job opening for a Maker Education Manager! Woot Woot!

We're looking for a dynamic, organized, self-starter with excellent oral and written communication skills and a passion for making and tinkering as well as teaching (though no formal background/training required) to manage and grow our K-12 youth and teacher outreach programs. It's full-time with a start date of mid-April.

More details on the responsibilities and requirements of the job are posted on our website.

Applications will be accepted for review through March 20, 2020.
Join us to share the fun and benefits of making and positively impact the problem-solvers of tomorrow!

Decatur Makers Testimonial of the month:

Outstanding community maker space.
An inspiration!

-- Rob I.

What We're Making

After making two reusable cat water filters by cutting white acrylic on our Glowforge laser cutter, and using nylon screws and stainless steel mesh, member Paul A. said, "Better and cheaper than the filters I can buy on Amazon. Okay, and it was fun to design and build it too!" #makingisfun #makingcansavemoney

Member Hudson was thrilled with his first 3D printing project! Looking forward to seeing what he does next. #makerkidsrock

This is one of several beautifully graphic end-grain cutting boards made by member Mike S. Lots of cutting and sanding but worth it. Great job!

What We're Sharing

We had another great turn out at our monthly Money Makers MeetUp for entrepreneurs and small business folks looking to make money with their making skills. Thanks to member Katie Jo for sharing her experiences growing her hobby passion into a top Etsy store and a full-time gig working with movie production companies and large hotels/resorts.
Another amazingly creative group of middle schoolers at our most recent Girl Makers Club meeting! After soldering a simple circuit, they created a flashlight made out of recycled materials, designed and made embroidery art, and built Sprout Houses with the help of an awesome educator from our good friends at the Wylde Center. #makergirlsrock
With the help of several amazing Engineering and CS students from Georgia Tech, we hosted a STEAM maker event for a group of youth from the International Rescue Committee. After building the circuit on a breadboard to light up 4 different colored lights with buttons, they learned to code an Arduino to play the electronic Simon game. Awesome!

Decatur Makers and Eddie’s Attic are partnering for our second annual Make It Up! Improv Show Fundraiser on May 5, 2020. Plan to join us as we share lots of laughs and auction cool prizes, all while supporting Decatur Makers. The doors will open early for drinks and food and then enjoy a great show of local Atlanta improv ensembles as well as meet members of our maker community. See updates soon at DecaturMakers.org.

SAVE THE DATE: May 5, 2020.
