IMPORTANT DATES:
  • March 12 - 20: Households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail.
  • March 30 - April 1: The Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness over these three days. As part of this process, the Census Bureau counts people in shelters, at soup kitchens and mobile food vans, on the streets, and at non-sheltered, outdoor locations such as tent encampments.
  • April 1: Census Day is observed nationwide. By this date, every home will receive an invitation to participate in the 2020 Census. Once the invitation arrives, you should respond for your home in one of three ways: online, by phone, or by mail. When you respond to the census, you'll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020.
  • April: Census takers will begin visiting college students who live on campus, people living in senior centers, and others who live among large groups of people. Census takers also begin conducting quality check interviews to help ensure an accurate count.
  • May - July: Census takers will begin visiting homes that haven't responded to the 2020 Census to help make sure everyone is counted.
  • December: The Census Bureau will deliver apportionment counts to the President and Congress as required by law.
Could you use a little extra income? Jobs for the 2020 Census offer competitive wages that are paid weekly. Authorized expenses, such as mileage, are reimbursed for employees doing fieldwork. The Bureau is hiring for a number of temporary positions such as census takers, recruiting assistants, office staff, and supervisory staff.

Help ensure that everyone in your community is counted in the next decennial census, and visit https://2020census.gov/en/jobs.html to learn how you can assist your region!

Diabetes Alert Day
American Diabetes Association Diabetes Alert Day® is on March 24, 2020! Observed annually on the fourth Tuesday in March, Diabetes Alert Day is a one-day “wake-up call” that focuses on the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of understanding your risk. We encourage you to find out if you – or someone you love – is at risk for type 2 diabetes by taking this quick and simple Diabetes Risk Test.

Did You Know?
  • Diabetes affects about 30.3 million Americans or about 9.4 percent of the U.S. population.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 adults living with diabetes, or 7.2 million Americans, are unaware that they have the disease.
  • Another 84 million Americans have prediabetes, a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.
  • Nine out of 10 adults with prediabetes don’t know they have it.

Brain Injury Awareness Month
For more than three decades, the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) has proudly led the nation in observing Brain Injury Awareness Month by conducting an engaging public awareness campaign in March of each year.
The theme for the 2018 to 2020 campaign is Change Your Mind.

The #ChangeYourMind public awareness campaign provides a platform for educating the general public about the incidence of brain injury and the needs of people with brain injuries and their families. Individuals who join us to help raise awareness with the #ChangeYourMind campaign are essential to:
  • De-stigmatizing brain injury through outreach within the brain injury community
  • Empowering those who have survived brain injury and their caregivers
  • Promoting the many types of support that are available to people living with brain injury

Social Work Month
Social Work Month in March is a time to celebrate the great profession of social work.

The theme for Social Work Month 2020 is Social Workers: Generations Strong.
The theme has various meanings. As we enter a new decade it is important to look back and honor the powerful, positive impact the social work profession has had on our society for generations.

We also want to spotlight the life-affirming work that social workers from all generations — from the Greatest Generation to the Z Generation — are doing. And since the National Association of social Workers is celebrating its 65th anniversary in 2020, Social Work Month is a great opportunity to remind social workers of the important work NASW has been doing for decades and the need to join.

Adoption of New Transportation Plan
On Thursday, February 27th, the Transportation Policy Committee adopted the new Connection Kentuckiana 2040 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) and the Fiscal Year 2020 - 2025 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

These are the two major transportation planning documents for the Louisville/Jefferson County, KY-IN Metropolitan Planning Area encompassing Clark, Floyd, and a portion of Harrison County in Indiana, as well as Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, and a portion of Shelby County in Kentucky. The Connecting Kentuckiana 2040 MTP is a 20-year plan that outlines both the vision and goals, as well as strategies and investments, for the region's transportation system. The Fiscal Tear 2020-2025 TIP is a short-range, multi year program of transportation projects and is considered a sub-set of Connecting Kentuckiana 2040 MTP. Both Transportation planning documents have been sent to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for review.
