Reminder: PTA General Meeting Thurs., March 5

It's that time again! Our March general meeting will be this Thursday at 6:00 in the school cafeteria. Dinner will be served at 5:30, and child care will be provided by LINC for kids aged P3 through 6th grade. This month's focus will be volunteer opportunities for:

  • Teacher appreciation week
  • Field Day/Fun Day
  • Serving on the nominating committee for next year's slate of PTA Exec Board candidates
  • Filling open committee chair positions for next year

If you've been wanting to get involved but just haven't been sure how to do it, this is your chance!

In order to minimize printing costs and reduce waste, we're not providing printed copies of the minutes or agenda at the meeting.  They are posted for your convenience on the Border Star PTA website. [LINK]  Please review them prior to the meeting and have them ready to pull up on your smart phone or other device to reference during the meeting.

Save the Date for April 25 for a night of adult-only fun! This is our biggest fundraiser and includes trivia, silent auction, and new this year--a wine pull!

Planning is under way and here's how you can help:

Sponsors- Do you know own or work for a business that would be interested in making a monetary donation to the event? We have three sponsorship levels with varying benefits and publicity. Contact andreahcoates@gmail.com with ideas.

Silent Auction- Do you know businesses, artists, makers,  restaurants, collectors, individuals, or anyone else who has a service or item to include in a silent auction? Contact mcoates@yarco.com or kate.bender@gmail.com

Wine- We are in need of wine of all values both to serve at the event and to use for a "Wine Pull". If you have wine to donate or know possible donors, contact bowempe@gmail.com or bring it to the PTA meeting this Thursday.

Dragon Parents Group Facebook Page
The moderators of the parents Facebook page will be posting some new user guidelines soon. This page is NOT run by the school or the PTA--it was started organically by a group of parents several years ago to share information and ask questions about things going on in the school.  It was such a valuable resource that many parents involved worked to make it more widely known to parents at the school and the membership has grown substantially. While it is meant to be a safe space for venting minor irritations or looking for support to tackle issues in the school, it is not meant to be a place to tear down teachers, administration, or the district. The last thing we want to do is scare new parents away with excessive venting. We believe the parents at Border Star want to foster and support the success of our school for benefit of all the students and families. So the new guidelines are meant to remind those who post and comment to keep in mind that shared goal.

PTA meetings are open to the entire school body. If you would like to be a voting member, annual dues are $5 per person.
