Tara’s film WANDER DARKLY competed in the dramatic competition at Sundance this year. She wrote and directed the film starring Diego Luna and Sienna Miller for 51 Entertainment. On the TV side, she directed the planted spinoff episode of ARROW “GREEN ARROW & THE CANARIES” for WBTV, Berlanti and CW that aired the same week as WANDER DARKLY premiered. She was in the CBS directing program and Ryan Murphy Half Program and has directed episodes of HAWAII 5-0 and ARROW. Tara came to our attention after she conceived, financed, directed and produced the MEET A MUSLIM short that went viral in 2016.

The AFI Directing Workshop for Women is the longest-running program dedicated to supporting women and gender nonbinary narrative directors. Committed to providing opportunities for marginalized genders, DWW annually mentors eight filmmakers through the production cycle of a short film, providing hands-on instruction with classes led by industry experts. Since 1974, the program has trained over 350 filmmakers who do more than direct film and television – they push the boundaries of storytelling and its creative process.

Netflix Launches Collection Curated by Female Creators in Honor of International Women's Day

Netflix and UN Women have teamed up to launch Because She Watched, a collection of series, documentaries and films curated by female creators working behind the scenes and in front of the camera. The curators include Sophia Loren, Janet Mock, Salma Hayek, Yalitza Aparicio, Millie Bobby Brown, Mindy Kaling, Laurie Nunn, Lana Condor, Petra Costa and Ava DuVernay. The collection, which will be available to stream all year, launched ahead of International Women's Day on Sunday. "This collaboration is about taking on the challenge of telling women’s stories and showing women in all their diversity. It’s about making visible the invisible, and proving that only by fully representing and including women on screen, behind the camera and in our narratives overall, society will truly flourish," said Anita Bhatia, UN Women deputy executive director. The collection can be accessed at Netflix.com/BecauseSheWatched or by searching "Because She Watched" on the streamer. Every title in the collection is labeled so that members can easily see which curator picked each title. In addition, members can choose from a selection of "Because She Watched" profile icons to celebrate their favorite female characters who are featured in the collection.
