Mutual Recognition Registrations and the Relevance of “Good Character”

Building practitioners seeking registration in another state via mutual recognition often face hurdles and setbacks in the process. A recent High Court case has reinforced that 'qualifications' or 'experience' are not germane considerations for refusal of mutual recognition; rather, the relevant consideration is occupational 'equivalence'. The case also confirmed that the test of 'good character' falls under the umbrella of 'qualification' or 'experience' and is therefore not a valid reason for denying mutual recognition.
