We are proud to announce that the
Keynote Speaker at the 2020 Trail Dames Summit
                                         is
                          Cheryl Suchors!!!!

Cheryl Suchors grew up in Southern, Eastern and Mid-Western US and is a proud graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.

After getting an MBA from Harvard she began a career that spanned everything from management consultant to partner in a national accounting and consulting firm. After years in the corporate world, she found the courage to launch her second career as a writer. She’s published short works and poems and has recently authored a book, 48 Peaks, Hiking and Healing in the White Mountains.

At forty-eight years old, Cheryl vowed to summit the highest forty-eight peaks in New Hampshire’s rugged White Mountains to help her find success during a career transition. She discovered, in the years that followed, that in order to feel truly successful, she would have to do much more than tick off peaks. Her book follows her journey and is much more than a tale of mountain climbing and peak bagging.  It is a story of personal triumph, friendship, challenge, and strength. Cheryl's book has been a huge success and was chosen as a Silver medalist from the 2019 Independent Publishers Book Awards.

Name:  Cheryl Suchors

Trail Name:      Flower Queen

Where Do You Live:  Cambridge, Massachusetts

What is the Title of Your Session and What Can We Expect?
My session will be called Handy Hints for Hard Hikes!!  And my Key Note Speech will be about Climbing all the 4,000 footers of New Hampshire and the life challenges that accompanied that goal!!

What is Your Favorite Thing About Being Outdoors?
Looking at the remarkable large and small things of nature, feeling kinship with them in the great web of life.

Do You Have a Favorite Trail or Adventure?
So far the most knock-your-socks off beauty on hikes for me has been in New Zealand and Switzerland. But part of me will always be in the 48 4000 Footers of the White Mountains in New Hampshire.

What is your Never-Leave-Home-Without-It Piece of Gear?
Knee brace.

What Advice Would You Give to a Woman Who is New to Hiking and Backpacking?
Start slow and build up distance and elevation gain gradually, when your body is ready. Work on your legs, core, and cardio whenever you can.

Anything Else You Would Like to Add?
I’ve always enjoyed learning about the natural world around me when I’m hiking. Knowing the names of wild flowers, for example, makes me feel I’ve spotted a friend every time I see one. (And it takes my mind off of any aches...) I’m trying to learn trees as well; they’re much harder!
