March Roundtable

Please join us Thursday, March 12 (and every 2nd Thursday) for a great night!  The District Committee meets at 6:00 pm and the Roundtable begins at 7:00, both at Transfiguration Lutheran Church in Cayce (1301 12th Street).

Our topic this month includes:

STEM / NOVA for Packs and Troops with Jeanne Stewart

Please send this out to all of your adult leaders!  We would like for all leaders in ANY role to join us.  These meetings are great, but we want more of you there.  Let us know how we can improve (content, location, time, etc.) by emailing us at ChinquapinDistrict@gmail.com.

OA Chapter Meeting

Tschitanek Woakus will hold our monthly chapter meeting at 7:00 pm this Thursday, March 12, at Transfiguration Lutheran.

Wood Badge 2021

Wondering who should attend WB? The answer is simple - ANY Pack, Troop, or Crew leader in or out of our Council will be able to take something away from the course. In fact, ALL volunteer and professional staff will gain so much from attending this!  Wood Badge is the ultimate adult training and will be offered next year, but registration is filling up! Chinquapin's own Brooks Prevette is the Course Director and would love to answer any questions you might have. For more info on registering, click here: https://scoutingevent.com/553-woodbadge2021?draftmode=1

Camp Barstow Update:

We now have over 600 campers already registered - more now than the total attendance for last year!!!  Still, very few campers are from Chinquapin.  Please encourage all scouts attending camp outside of council and anyone interested to register as part of the Baden-Powell Patrol.  So many scouts have done this over the last two years and all really enjoyed their time at Barstow!
Camp Barstow is looking for a few good Scouts and Scouters to join us on the 2020 summer camp staff!  We are holding our final round of open interviews at the upcoming Merit Badge University on March 21st.  We are looking specifically for a dining hall manager, angler instructor and several other positions.  If you have any interest in working at camp this summer please reach out to the Camp Director Jason Spangler at jason@campbarstowsc.com
Membership:

As the council collectively handles rechartering for 2020, please turn in any outstanding membership forms to the council office ASAP.

If you have any questions regarding re-chartering or membership in general, please contact IWC Field Director Scott Hagler here.
Friends of Scouting

The Chinquapin District needs your help with our 2020 Friends of Scouting Campaign.  The District Committee would like the opportunity to visit your unit during a well-attended event with parents and Scouts such as a Court of Honor or Blue and Gold Banquet during the first quarter of 2020 and make a short presentation to them.  This presentation aims to educate families on the Indian Waters Council and the programs it has to offer and show how monies are raised and allocated. During this presentation, families will have an opportunity to contribute. The program is short and will not take a lot of time.

As an alternative to a unit presentation, we would also like to offer the chance to have units or families sponsor a table at the upcoming FoS Dinner!  Please let Scott Hagler know a good time for a presentation OR if you're interested in sponsoring a table at the FoS Dinner.

Thank you for all the great work you, your leaders and parents do.
Looking Ahead

Cub Day Camp
Chinquapin Jedi Training Academy is June 8-12 at River Bluff High School, from 5 - 9:15 pm each day. The cost is $80 for the week, which includes all activities, a t-shirt and patch.  An early bird discount of $10 will apply if your registration is in and paid for by May 1 (making the cost $70 for the week). Registration is live now.

We are currently looking for a few volunteers to assist with camp as well.  You can receive a staff discount for your scout by volunteering for the entire 5 days!  (Yes, you can stack your discounts).

Please contact Laurie Stokes or Jeff Kohl for information.

New Site!

The new council website is up and running!  Head over and check out https://indianwaters.org/.  The site is full of new designs and updated information.

In addition, our Chinquapin District info is updated and will hopefully serve as a great resource for all of your essential scouting questions.  We are proud of this update and hope you find it useful.  Please continue to check back often though.  We are updating it daily and if there is some info you'd find useful here, just let us know
Monthly Award Recognition:     Beginning this year, we would love to recognize the hard work of the adult leaders in your units at our monthly Roundtables.  If you have leaders who have earned knots or awards and would like to recognize them in front of their peers, please email us and let us know.
