FEATURING
SEK BUDAPEST OPEN DAY

Open day has been always an exciting day for all of us, students and teachers alike. We have a chance to show our work, and as a teacher I want to make sure to have a productive and a successful lesson.

I found that the best type of lessons are the review lessons. Students are more confident in their knowledge of the previously learnt topics.

Also, when I do my planning for the lesson, one of my main goals is to always have a task where every student can participate or a game that all students are actively engaged .Many times I try to have an activity where students’ parents can be involved as well, for example playing a round of Bingo is fun.If it is possible, I try to showcase students’ work if there is a project going on.

I always appreciate parents coming to an Open Day lesson. It is one of a kind  chance where you can get a glimpse of your child in action. Do come if you can and enjoy the various lessons.

What does open day mean to me?

For me open day means getting ready, doing projects, having fun and learning to perform, to talk in front of people.

I really like these open day classes, because they’re fun and I like working in teams, pairs or even individually. We have to prepare our books, diary, pencils, pens, etc. The teachers prepare us for the classes when we always get fun projects that we have to do in front of our parents.

Grass Flowers

by Na Taejoo

You need to take a close look at them to find them pretty.

You need to see them for a long time to find them lovable.

The same goes for you.

I picked this poem as my favorite because sometimes I think I am not loveable. I don’t smile some days, just frowning. When I read this poem, I feel happy and I connect myself to the flower. I don’t know how grass flowers look, but I imagine them as flowers with white and yellow color because that is the type of flower that think is beautiful.

PRESCHOOL CORNER

Last week the preschool welcomed 17 practicing teachers from the Eötvös Loránd University. Each teacher will be undertaking a 9 week practical placement in the preschool observing lessons and supporting free play in the classroom.

Our students were very excited to see all the new faces in our classroom and listened eagerly to all the new teachers as they introduced themselves and talked about the things that they find interesting.

Shrove Tuesday

To mark Shrove Tuesday, the Junior School learned about the traditions of making pancakes.
Each class had the chance to make their own pancakes and enjoy it with a topping of their choice!  Pancake races were enjoyed too!

Bird Beak Stations

A physical adaptation is any trait that helps a living thing to survive. Third grade students managed to understand this topic through a Science lab where they experienced the different types of beaks that a bird can have according to the food they eat. Hence, pupils used a variety of materials to mimic birds' beaks such as chopsticks to pick up worms in dirt, droppers to suck water from vases, their tongues to catch some popcorn, a wire cutter to open sunflower seeds, tweezers to collect small seeds, scissors to tear play dough to get a stick and a serrated spoon to scoop the cereal off the top of the water.
There is no doubt how fun they had pretending to be birds!
