Upcoming Spring Things!

PTA Board Volunteers Needed By April 7
Thank you to everyone who has stepped up to fill our PTA Board, Rat Race, and Bash leadership positions in the last few weeks! We still have a few Board openings, and we would like to have them filled before the April 7th PTA meeting, so we can start training the new folks. Most critical is the Treasurer position since we won’t be able to write checks without one! If you are interested in any of these jobs, please contact Michelle at: VicePresident@JacksonPTA.org

  • Membership Coordinator - This position tracks and records JMS PTA membership numbers to report to Oregon PTA. All of it can be done from home, and being comfortable with Excel definitely helps. It takes the least in hours, most of which are in the first few months of the school year, plus attendance at monthly meetings.
  • Vice President - This position will support the President by leading meetings when needed and preparing general meeting agendas. VP also handles weekly messaging communications. Time commitment is probably maximum 5 hours per month during the school year, plus attendance at the monthly meetings.
  • Treasurer - This position manages all financial records and check writing for the PTA, including monthly bank account reconciliation, tax form preparation and reporting to the board and membership. While some accounting background is helpful, it isn't mandatory for someone good with finances. Our PTA utilizes a very user-friendly software designed for non-profits. This is the most important position to fill immediately - allowing the new Treasurer to shadow our current officer before the end of the fiscal year. Leaving this position vacant into the summer will limit the PTA's ability to fund any obligations at the beginning of the school year. Should be able to attend most monthly PTA meetings. Time commitment is probably 3-4 hours monthly during the school year, plus attending the meetings.
Native Plants on JMS Trail - March 14
Watershed Resource Center has another community project planned for the Jackson walking path on Saturday, March 14. Tryon Creek Watershed Council is putting on the event, and WRC is hosting the Jackson site. People could sign up for other sites within the watershed if they wanted to, but anyone who lives close to the school could just meet on the trail a little after 9 am. We'll be planting native plants in the open area at the west end of the trail, and doing some ivy removal in areas that have been replanted over the last couple years. More info here.

JMS Annual Food Drive - March 16-20
The annual JMS Peer Helper-sponsored food drive will be March 16-20. All grades will compete for the most pounds donated. The winning grade gets a patio popsicle party at lunch! Last year we collected 4,444 pounds of food, and this year our goal is 5,000 pounds! More important, the food donated will benefit both the Jackson SUN pantry AND the Neighborhood House in Multnomah Village. Most needed items:
  • Pasta sauce
  • Easy Mac
  • Soup packets (not cans)
  • Canned chicken and beef (not tuna)
  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal packets
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Pasta & Rice
DATES TO NOTE:
  • Friday, March 6 - Parent Coffee with Ms. Kosmala in the Community Room at 9:30 AM
  • Thursday, March 12 - Choir & Band Spring Concert at 7 PM
  • Saturday, March 14 - JMS Trail Planting at 9 AM (see above for more info)
  • Saturday, March 14 - Girls’ Night Out from 6:00 to 10:30 PM
