Library Forum

A public forum seeking support for a Library Branch for Northern Dare will be held on Monday, March 9th at 6:00 p.m. in the Pitts Center located at 5377 N Virginia Date Trail, Southern Shores. For more information on the proposed library branch see the brochure here.

FEMA Flood Maps

In 2016, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released updated preliminary flood maps for all of Dare County. FEMA has now issued its letter of final map determination and the new maps will become effective on June 19, 2020.

In recognition of these changes and the challenges that the new maps present, the Town of Duck and the other municipalities in Dare County are considering the adoption of development standards that will maintain a minimum building elevation standard. These proposed standards will be reviewed and considered by the Town of Duck Planning Board and Town Council in the coming months.

Pedestrian Plan Phase III Update

RPC Contracting continues wrapping up work on the project. They conducted final grading and installed crosswalk markings across the intersections of Cook Drive, Dune Road, Sea Colony Drive, and Olde Duck Road.

During this week, RPC may conduct final grading prior to hydroseeding the steeper banks along the sidewalk and other areas disturbed during construction. Hydroseeding is also planned where the Duck Trail was replaced adjoining the Sanderling neighborhood and south of Four Seasons Lane to help stabilize the exposed soil in those areas.
