Greetings to the IOSA Community during these challenging times.

We wanted to get out some critical training dates to IOSA volunteers now, but please know that depending on how these next few months unfold, we may need to reschedule or adjust. We'll keep everyone who signs up informed as the dates in May get closer.

Please know that many key IOSA volunteers, Board members, and supporters are heavily involved in the COVID-19 response, but rest assured that we're all anxious to get back to the important work of IOSA as soon as things start to get back to normal. Our ability to answer questions may be limited in the meantime.

Until then, stay safe, take care of each other, and nurture the same island community spirit that gave birth to IOSA so many years ago.

Please visit the San Juan County COVID-19 page for current information and resources on the outbreak and response-  www.sanjuanco.com/1668/2019-Novel-Coronavirus

Stay safe and healthy. The island spirit will see us through!

IOSA 2020 TRAINING CALENDAR

Where: Friday Harbor, San Juan Island / Exact location TBD

Time: 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (exact timing may shift with ferry schedules, etc.)

What: This two-day introductory Wildlife Response Training provides an overview of oiled wildlife response with an emphasis on preparing volunteers to understand how they can help when wildlife is impacted. The training will focus on the context and phasing of an oiled wildlife response, how to assess if an animal is oiled, and how to capture oiled wildlife. The training will discuss specific safety issues involved in handling or working with oiled wildlife; building an understanding of the response process and provides trainees with the basic skills necessary to support a wildlife response. The first day of the training is lecture and discussion in the classroom with a second day of field exercises.  The training will provide opportunities for discussion of current and best practice methods.
