In FREEFALL WRITING RETREATS, the writer learns by doing: powerful writing immersion is balanced by informed, personal guidance. Selected passages are read aloud by Barbara and discussed in a supportive, small-group setting. The primary emphasis is on learning to 'let go' in writing so that the creative process can carry you. Technical aspects of the craft (scene, voice, dialogue, structure) are discussed as they arise in the course of the writing.
Not only are there exquisite vistas and a bucolic setting at Rivendell -- there is also a tranquility that inspires guests to “Freefall” into rich, often unexpected places in their writing.
Each participant has a private room with its own bathroom, a writing desk and view of the gardens, surrounding mountains, and the beautiful fjord of Howe Sound. There are hiking trails, a labyrinth, and many peaceful spots throughout the grounds to walk, sit, meditate, or write, as well as several comfy spots in the main house.
We’ve already received registration from past participants of this magical workshop so I know how fertile the discussion of the writing at this coming June’s retreat promises to be.
Dates: June 4 -11, 2020
Location: Rivendell Retreat Centre on Bowen Island, a short ferry ride northwest of Vancouver, B.C., where the mountains sweep straight down to the sea––a magical place to write.
Fee: CA$1870 ($1500 US) ~ Includes tuition, a private room, and all lunches and dinners.
The fee also includes an optional extra night, so that although the workshop ends with lunch on the 10th, you can choose to stay until the 11th to unwind and enjoy the pleasures of this very special island.
Please join us in this place of quiet and beauty to drop inside and discover what is waiting there for you. The writing you will accomplish at Rivendell is of the kind that nourishes and astonishes the spirit.
Warmest wishes,
Deepam
