Thank you to all those who got something framed in February.

My framing jobs are mainly art, photographs, or football tops although every so often I get asked to frame something unusual, such as the lease document and the medals from last month.

There are a few more interesting items just completed that I will feature below.

In this newsletter I have a special offer for the month of March, a selection of frames completed over the last month or so, and some conservation chat.

Have a look here and see if it inspires you to get something framed.

Feel free to contact me using any of the methods listed below or phone 07753 689637.

Running Medals

I was handed a pile of running medals asked to frame them for displaying in the runner's room.

We agreed on 3 rows of 4 medals each to keep the frame compact and neat and a nice white mount with a grey frame.

The medal ribbons are held in place with clothes tags and the medals have mounting tape behind them that can be peeled off if ever required.

I'm sure you'll agree this is a great way to show off all these medals.
Pressed Flower

This was a new one for me; I was asked to frame this pressed flower.

The customer chose the mount and frame combination: a pale mount and an ash wood stained with an oak dye.

I then had to sew the flower in place using green thread at a couple of points to hold it up, and use a spacer between the mounts to lift the glass off the flower.

The job was finished using anti-reflective glass so it looks very effective, almost as if there is no glass in the frame.

This was a very rewarding project and I'm sure it now has pride of place in its new home.
Swimming Memorabilia

This was quite a complicated project; with 5 items to be included in the frame.

I was given a bit of a free reign here, so I decided adding a mount would just be too busy, so everything is 'floating' on the backing board.

There is also a black spacer around the edge so the glass isn't squished against the items.

The frame ended up around 1 metre square, but what a wonderful keepsake, now preserved in a frame to be enjoyed for many years to come.
Conservation Chat
The brass wire on the back of all my picture frames is reasonably loose, for very good reason.

This diagram highlights the downward pressure on the hanging point(s) at several different angles.

The best way to hang a picture is with two hooks that are as wide apart as you can get them, so the wire will be at a 60° angle.

This would mean that for a 10 lb picture frame there would only be downward force of 6 lbs on each hanging point, rather than 143 lbs on a single hanging point at a 2° angle.
