March includes the St. Patrick's Day holiday and the MU Career Center is feeling very lucky to be recruiting new student positions, hosting fun events, and featuring campus programs that help students and supervisors reach their potential. Our May grads should also feel fortunate to be entering the workforce during a booming job market. Check out more details below!
There are some exiting new developments coming from our student employment initiatives:

Referrals for Student Employment
You can now refer students in MU Connect for part-time student employment assistance by selecting ‘Student Employment’ in the referrals option. The referral can be used if students are needing assistance with navigating employment opportunities, application materials, student employment concerns, and assistance with connecting student employment skills to future employment opportunities.

National Student Employment Appreciation Week
Mark your calendars for the week of April 12th-April 18th to recognize your student employees. Show your students how much you appreciate their impact on your office or department. A thank you note or certificate is a simple way to share why you value their commitment. Encourage your students to visit the MU Career Center for assistance on adding their student employment experiences to their resumes. Programming for the week will be shared in the April newsletter.
The MU Career Center is hiring! We are actively recruiting students to fill part-time jobs and graduate assistantships in a variety of roles, including:
  • Graphic Designer (part-time)
  • Front End Web Developer (part-time)
  • Marketing & Communications Coordinator (Graduate Assistantship)
  • Leadership Program, Jumpstart (Graduate Assistantship)
  • Site Coordinator, A Way With Words & Numbers (Graduate Assistantship)

The next LinkedIn Photo Day is nearly here!  The MU Career Center is hosting photo days in Room 24 of the Student Success Center on the first Friday of the month spring semester. Students, as well as faculty and staff members, are encouraged to attend!  See our web page for details. Our next dates are:

                     Friday, March 6th                    11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
                     Friday, April 3rd                       11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Mizzou Alumni are waiting to meet students and discuss their career goals! Students can connect with Tigers all over the world with the Mizzou Mentoring Program, a new and FREE  feature of the Mizzou Alumni Association. Students may customize their profile and use dynamic filters to find Mizzou Tigers in a similar field, location, or interest area.

Mentors can help students think through next steps, such as:
  • Career or class planning
  • Guidance with time management or work-life balance
  • Considering a degree change or graduate school
  • Help navigating the Mizzou campus experience
Please encourage students to join and expand their professional network.  Also, all MU faculty and staff are able to participate in this program, so please consider becoming a mentor!
Each year, the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) publishes the Job Outlook, a survey of its employer members, to forecast job market and hiring trends for new college graduates.

According to the latest survey, the job market looks good for the Class of 2020!  Employers plan to hire 5.8% more new college graduates from this class than they did from the Class of 2019. Employers cite company growth and the value of college hires as reasons for the good job market. Additionally, 93.7% of employers plan to maintain or increase their levels of hiring this year.

The job search can be a time of great uncertainty and anxiety for students. As you advise May graduates, be sure to share this positive outlook to ease their worries.
