✊💻 Tech Workers Coalition NYC 💻✊

Hey folks,

Just a reminder that the Steering Committee election goes until next Tues, March 3rd @ 12pm. Please vote if you haven't! If you're on this email list, you should have received an email from OpaVote with voting instructions. If you didn't get an OpaVote link, and you think you should, please respond to this email and let us know! Or hit up any of the outgoing steering committee members on slack.

Also, FYI that email contained a minor bug, we ask that you only vote for your top 5 candidates of the 7. Everyone will get elected - this just determines who is on the acting steering committee vs who is an alternate (backup) member.

Upcoming Events
NYC-DSA Tech Action Happy Hour
March 4th, 6PM @ Cherry Tree Bar

Join NYC-DSA Tech Action members for drinks in Brooklyn (right near Atlantic Terminal/Barclays).

Organizer Training: Turning an Issue Into A Campaign
March 11th, 630-830PM @ The People's Forum

Join us for another workplace organizer training from the "Secrets of a Successful Organizer" series from Labor Notes.

This training is on "Turning an Issue Into A Campaign". We'll talk about how to identify a good issue, making a plan, turning up the heat, and how to decide on a strategy.

TWC is meant to be a safe space for workers. To that end we ask that no managers or reporters attend this meeting.

TWC(NYC) New Members Orientation
March 19th, 7-9PM @ The People's Forum

Join us while we try something new! Have you been reading these emails but not coming to meetings? Do you have a friend that's been on the fence about getting involved? How big is TWC? What even is the steering committee anyway? We hope to be able to answer all these questions and more.

Register for the Labor Notes Conference

Tech workers are joining the largest gathering out there of rank-and-file union members and labor activists at the Labor Notes conference in Chicago, April 17 - 19. Labor Notes will have more than 200 workshops, panels, and trainings on workplace organizing, beating apathy, understanding the economy, reviving the strike, and more.

Find out more and register for the conference now! Early bird registration ends on February 28.

The TWC Code of Conduct is in effect for all TWC NYC meetings.

Finally, if you want to stay in touch with your fellow tech workers outside of meetings or emails, join us on the Slack team at #local-nyc and follow us on twitter!

If you have any questions or requests regarding accessibility or childcare, or for any other reason, please reach out to us (via this email) and we will do our best to address them!

Nervous about attending your first meeting? Read our onboarding doc!
