Honduras

Locked out of our building

In San Pedro Sula Honduras, many women and children’s lives are being touched by the power of Christ at Women of Hope. A few weeks ago we were unexpectedly locked out of our borrowed building by the people who own it. The wonderful team that was visiting from Virginia had VBS on the sidewalk with more than 20 children that week.

We were given two weeks to move everything out of the building. Please pray for a temporary location nearby where the ministry that impacts so many lives can continue and the funds and work teams so that the urgently needed new building is completed soon. We need help more now than ever to complete our center.

Some of the trafficking victims whose lives are being reached are very young. Two young sisters, Karen and Carlita (not their real names) desperately need change. They, along with their two cousins, visited our ministry center last August when 2 medical professionals held a one-day clinic. As we have gotten to know these young girls who are now 13 and 15 years old, our hearts have been broken for them. Their mother is mentally ill and walks the streets banging herself on the head. She sleeps in a ravine nearby in the same city and their father abandoned them many years ago. Their older sister uses drugs and is actively in prostitution.

None of the four girls are in school or have a stable environment. Many late nights they are in front of a bar being used as bait. These young teens have found a safe haven and the love of Christ at Women of Hope. Karen brought a new girl, “Tammy” in October who is only 11. We found out in November that she got “married“ to her pimp. Please pray that as we gain the trust of these young women, we will be able to provide them a safe way out and the start of a new life in Christ.

Back to School 2020

With your help, more than 2000 Nicaraguan students started their school year on February 3rd.  Many of them started for the first time this year because of you and other generous supporters, House of Hope provided their school uniform. Thank you for giving a hope and a future to these children.

One such student is Manfred

Manfred is a hopeful and grateful thirteen year old boy. He is able to attend school only because of the help he receives from people like you. He has seen first hand the hardship his mother has gone trough in trying to put her three children through school. A school uniform and school supplies for one child is often too much for a family in Nicaragua but for a single mother to afford that for three children is almost unheard of. Manfred says he feels very happy that he has received the financial help he has. He sees what a great benefit it has been to his mother and what a difference it makes for students with low income. His mother says she feels relieved of the weight, thanks to the financial help she has received. Manfred hopes to grow up to be a Customs Agent and own his business.

Graduation

Yahaira, House of Hope staff Administrator, says “Mariana and Alba looked forward to their graduation from the residential program for four meaningful years. On graduation day they begin a new chapter in their family both spiritually and economically. They are no longer slaves to the past and now they no longer depend on prostitution. They depend on God to provide for their every need. Thanks to your generosity they each have their own home and business to run. For them it is a great victory, from slavery to freedom.

Business Owners Needed!

Do you own a business? Then you are just who we need!

We are looking for business owners to have a small display on a countertop or other spot in their facility in order to sell some of House of Hope's handmade products.

We will provide you with a small basket of specific items that you select from a list of 10 items. It will include a small card with info about House of Hope. The entire display shouldn't take up much room and would be an immense help for us. After all, we can't do any of this without your help!
Please contact April at AprilHavlin@houseofhope.com to sign up!

Please continue to pray for the women and children at House of Hope.  Our wonderful staff need prayer also as they take on more responsibility. With your assistance, lives are being transformed everyday. Thank you!

April Havlin
