A New Year, A New Decade, A New Life

As we enter into a new decade, we pray for those in Chile who are continuing the ongoing work of spreading God's word. We are so excited to see the new believers give their life over to God through Baptism, and celebrate with them during this time. We reflect on the work that has been done over the last year and look forward to seeing what work God is going to do in this new year and new decade. We ask that you join us in looking ahead to the future and pray for the work that He will reveal to us in the coming year.

A Letter from the Director

As I sit here in Wales with the fourth case of the corona virus having been confirmed, I wonder how you, our supporters are managing wherever you are. I am sad to say that it is difficult to get information about Chile and I do not have any up to date news about how our contacts in Chile are managing in the current situation.

Today, in church we were looking at Psalm 121. “I will lift my eyes to the mountains from where my help comes”. In Wales, it is so easy to look up to the mountains but the importance of the next verse is so much greater. “My help comes from the Lord”. I pray that is where we will all look for help in whatever circumstances we find ourselves.

In the UK we seem to have, generally, a very secure banking system for which I am very grateful. However the security is so good that we continue to have difficulty in sending the money that we have out to Pastor Canipane. Please pray for us that we will overcome these difficulties soon. We would be very pleased to hear any suggestions about how we can transfer money to Chile safely.

And to end, I am pleased to report that Emily is now our newest member of the management team and we are very pleased that she has joined us. Both Danielle, our communications officer, and Emily were supported by Chile for Christ when they had a year in Chile with Project Trust. It is good to have people on the team who have first-hand experience of Chile.

Donate to Chile For Christ
On Sunday 19th January we celebrated as we saw many people give their lives to Christ through the baptism of water on Lake Puyehue.
We love to hear from Rodrigo and Miguel and all that they are doing, especially when they bring news of new believers taking that leap and professing their faith in God through baptism.

Our contacts in Northern Chile

Many of our contacts in Chile are central or southern, however we do have a few connections with some people in the North of Chile, specifically in Arica. In recent months we have had the good fortune of having a friend of Chile for Christ visit Arica and meet with our friends there. She was able to learn more about the experiences the pastors were going through, including working beyond retirement in order to support the community there.

Image above shows the group who attended the pastors' conference.

An update from Gerd and Rosi

"Chile for Christ has once again provided a big blessing on a practical level. Thanks to your support we were able to secure the house against water leaking in through the winter rains. We also will be able to renew our plumbing as our copper pipes are giving out after 10 years. It is a necessary and important part of our maintenance. The plan is to put hard plastic pipes in that will endure much longer and allow us to continue to use our house as a ministry centre.

In the last 4 weeks we have run 3 events. The first is a leadership retreat for 8 Latin leaders who we are equipping for further ministry with us and also for their daily walk with the Lord. Among them is a Chilean pastor and a Chilean missionary.

The other two events are pastor seminars for Chilean pastors. We had attendance confirmed from pastors travelling all the way from Calama and Temuco.  The seminars will also be streamed online via Skype so more pastors can participate. For the first seminar we received a speaker from the US.

We value your prayers for these events. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal our Lord Jesus Christ and do his transformative work in each one of us. Also for the Pastors to be strengthened to continue their ministry throughout the year. For many of them it is a time to receive personally but also for their congregation."

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to cause disruption throughout the world, Chile also enters a state of lockdown, announcing the closure of its borders on March 16th. Schools have closed, initially for two weeks, and visitors have been banned from care homes. We don't know how things will develop there, but the plight of those on low incomes remains a concern as Chile has a mix of public and private funding in its healthcare system.
FOR THOSE WHO PRAY
  • Continue to pray for Gerd and Rosi as they reflect on the events they have recently hosted and what their next steps are.
