ASB School Update Regarding COVID-19

We know many of you are monitoring the situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our state.  At this time, we want to provide information to our families and community.  ASB School continues to follow the direction of the CDC  and state and county health officials, as they are the experts in this area.  Currently, the recommendation is focusing on prevention by doing the following:

  • Cleaning/sanitizing surfaces daily
  • Having students practice proper hand-washing, nose-blowing, etc.
  • Enforcing our school illness policy
As the situation develops, we will continue to follow the recommendations of the CDC and state and local health officials.  At this time, they are not recommending schools close without cause.  Should we find ourselves in a situation where a member of our community contracts or is exposed to COVID-19, we will plan on closing school at that time.  Again, we will use the recommendations of the professionals and, should this situation occur, would likely be closed for the duration of the incubation period.  If school were to close for an extended period of time, we would institute our digital learning days plan and use email, video, Google Classroom, etc. to communicate assignments to students and families.  We did this during last year's snowstorm to ensure students stayed on track with their learning and it worked well.

At this time, the most important steps our families can take are the following:
  • Keep your children home if they are ill.  Our school policy states that students who have been ill may not return to school until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours.  Please adhere to that policy.
  • Practice proper hand-washing at home.
  • Reinforce proper nose-blowing and coughing techniques.
  • Develop a plan for childcare should we need to close school.
  • Develop a plan for home care should a member of your family contract COVID-19.
Please remember that panic and inciting unnecessary worry or rumors is not helpful.  Currently, the CDC and public health officials are reminding everyone of the importance of not panicking. Should the situation at ASB change, we will inform you immediately.
