Dear <<First Name>>,

Hurray, we've made it through the winter! With Storm Ciara, Dennis, and Ellen behind us, I hope it's not too early to have my fingers crossed for a pleasant spring!

February brought about one of our most popular social events this year, the Valentine's Day Pub-crawl as well as the long-awaited announcement from the Study Trip Committee that this year's destination is...Poland! I've already got my application form from studytrip.csubuntu@gmail.com, have you? Deadline for payments is midnight at March 06!

In other news, we will be kicking off our first themed week this year with Women's Rights Week! Read on to find out what we have planned!

Enjoy the read!

On behalf of the 9th Board,

Azalea Roseli
CS Ubuntu President 2019-2020

WOMEN'S RIGHTS WEEK

March 04: Women at War Lecture
18:30 | Drift 25, 0.02
Presented by Florence Bateson (PAX), this lecture addresses the role of women in conflict. In particular, these two questions will be addressed:
1. What role does art play in changing gender norms?
2. Despite their role on the ground, why do women remain excluded in all formal peace processes?

March 06: Sign-making Event
Join us in the Boardroom (Drift 21, 2.06) in making signs for the Amsterdam Women's March this weekend! Cardboard and paints will be provided, all you need to bring is a stick (or a stick-equivalent) and a mood to chat about the realisation of women's rights and the current state of gender inequality!

March 08: CS Ubuntu goes to the Amsterdam Women's March
The Activities Committee is organising a meet-up at Platform 7, Utrecht Central Station at 11:35am Sunday morning so we can participate in the Women's March in Amsterdam as a group! Bring your signs, bring your energy, and take a stand for what you believe in. See you there!

Events Recap

FEB 11 - Humanities Career Night
As part of UU's Humanities Career Night, we had the pleasure of hosting not one but two Conflict Studies Alumni! Leonie van Bruggen currently works for Radio La Benevolencija, an NGO countering hate-speech in East Africa and Europe, while Bo Altena works on VNG International's programmes on conflicts in Sub-Saharan Africa.

FEB 13 - Valentine's Day Pub-crawl
Hate it or love it, Valentine's Day brings at least one good news: CS Ubuntu's Valentine's Day Pub-crawl! This year the Activities Committee worked tirelessly to curate the perfect pub-crawl down the Oudegracht, with a certain President dressed-up as Cupid to lead a herd of around 30 pubcrawlers!

FEB 17 - GA II
The second General Assembly of this year was held in which the Board presented their proposals for the Code of Conduct and an Alcohol & Drugs Policy. Members provided great feedback which has been integrated into the documents, keep an eye on your inbox for the notes from the GA!

FEB 21 - Committee Potluck Dinner

On a cozy Friday afternoon, members from all of CS Ubuntu's committees gathered in Liam's spacious kitchen for a wonderful night of tasty food and super company! Everyone brought their own dish to the table and it was a great time to get to know each other better!
Registration for the Big Study Trip to Poland is open!

Travelling by train, two cities back-to-back, learning about Poland's WWII history and more recent struggles with the EU...what are you waiting for?

Send an email to
studytrip.csubuntu@gmail.com for an application form and join us for what will be an unforgettable trip!
Looking to boost your uni experience? Eager to add a little something to your plate (and CV) next year? In general just looking for a good time with good people?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, or perhaps none but are still considering a board year, then attend our Board Info Evening on March 12! The current board will explain what it is that they do as well as answer any questions you have!
