Hey,  <<First Name>>!

It's just day two of March, and I'm guessing you've been overwhelmed by two things already: "Happy New Month" greetings and broadcast messages about Corona Virus. While I won't bore you with any of them, please, stay safe <<First Name>>.

Bankly—a USSD-based saving and cash digitization service—has won the HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge. Launched in 2018 by Tomilola Adejana and Fredrick Adams, Bankly "provides a secure digital savings platform for the unbanked" by digitizing "customer savings into a mobile wallet that is secure, convenient and decentralized." In the past two years, it has onboarded 5,000+ agents.

The HiiL (Hague Institute for Innovation of Law) Innovating for Justice Challenge Finals was held in Hague, Netherlands. And three of the four startups that represented West Africa were Nigerian startups, namely, Africlaim, Bankly, and Vesicash. The fourth startup is a Ghanian startup, Appruve.

Out of the 14 startups that made it to the HiiL Innovating Justice Challenge Finals, Bankly and Appruve emerged first and second, respectively. While a Tanzania startup, Sheria Kijagani, came third. The winners will be joining HiiL Justice Accelerator, which would give them access to grant funding, free technical tools, promotional opportunities and connection to local and global mentors.

The College Situationan interactive platform that connects students with schools, scholarships and stories—has been acquired by ABiT Network, barely three weeks after it launched for ₦22 million ($60,972).

ABiT Network is a pan-African company that was founded in 2018 and focused on exploiting the opportunities embedded in Blockchain technology in Africa. ABiT Network solutions include the TATCOIN, ABiT Trader, ABiT Crowd and ABiT discount shoppers; it is led by Gaius Chibueze.

Favour Ori, who developed the app, is also the founder of FavCode54—a non-profit on a mission to train, mentor and build the next generation of African software developers. Favour said he started working on the project as a result of how difficult it was for him to secure admission to study in the United States in 2019.

He said, "I was driving home from church one day when the idea hit me. How about you build something to automate the process of studying abroad? A platform that gathers all the schools,  housing, scholarships, and fellowship programmes. That's how College Situation started."

College Situation was uploaded on the Play Store on February 9, 2020 (the iOS version is still in beta) and on February 28, 2020, Favour announced its acquisition. "ABiT Network saw the app upon release and loved it. They invited and sponsored my trip to Duba where we closed the deal," Favour said.
