Doc Madi's Renegade Gospel

If you're familiar with Black Rock City's Playa Choir, Doc Madi's name might ring a bell. If not, all you need to know is that she wants to bring a unique Chorale experience to Catharsis this year.

And here is a personal invitation from her:
Dear Catharsis family…

Hello, this is Madi.

I’m the woman who runs the Playa Choir at Burning Man. Nexus has generously invited me to come create a Sunday morning Celebration at Catharsis on the Mall. I could not be more excited to travel to DC and create this experience with you. So psyched!

I’m writing to say hello and put out the call for singers, choristers, soloists, and a rhythm section (and a place to rehearse? Email Nexus at nexus@dcburners.org).

In just a week or two, I will have all the music up on line where you can download PDFs and practice tracks. You can keep an eye on the site at https://www.renegadegospel.org/singers where I’ll have everything you need to prepare!

As far as a band, I need a drummer, bassist, keyboardist, and possible guitarist. Percussionists also welcome.

You need to have all your own gear, be able to learn the music ahead of time, and/or be able to read a chart.

I also need competent players who have good time, great attitudes and can support the choir with solid playing.

The music isn’t hard, but it does require solid playing. Solo chops are an added plus, but not as important as being solid supporter. If you’d like to be considered, please email me with links to your music/playing….We always have a blast!

All singers are welcome to join!

This is a call for dancers, improvisational movers, liturgical (but non-dogmatic) dancers to collaborate with our Sunday morning celebration. If you have a dance troupe, or group of people who like to move to inspire the spirit, please email me with a link to past projects. In the body of the email, please tell me why you want to collaborate with The Playa Choir/Renegade Gospel.

And last, a call for speakers. Got a knack for orating? Have something very special to share? Can you keep it within a certain time frame and make it fit into our non-dogmatic service under the umbrella of A Vision of Haven? Please email me, introduce yourself, and give me an idea of what you would like to share.

I can’t wait to check out what you are doing with this event and I really look forward to hanging out, reconnecting with my east coast friends and making new ones…

So much love,

Madi (madis_service@yahoo.com)

Spring Fundraising Campaign

As you may recall we had an End of Year fundraiser that garnered the support of almost 100 donors and get us more than halfway to our goal. And we knew what we didn't raise then, we'd have to raise eventually. So here we are.

And now that we've selected the artists, groups, and theme camps, we need your support even more than ever. We still have the support of a wonderful anonymous matching donor, and our goal is 18,000 dollars over the next month.

To those who gave to our last campaign, thank you, again. And if you didn't then, we hope you might be able to this time. Every amount counts. Your support matters.
