Drama Kids March Newsletter

Rehearsals for Spring Performances have officially begun!
This month, we'll be working on developing our voices for the stage.

Mar. 2020

Dear Parents:

Spring is in the air - or at least Spring Rehearsals are here! We can't wait for May 16th when you can finally see your child's One Act Play, but we've got a lot of work to do before that day.

A reminder - it is of the upmost importance that students are in class from now until the end of the school year because we only have 11 one-hour sessions to learn and work on our one act play for the spring performance. Every second counts!

Keep reading this edition of our Monthly Newsletter for details on what we'll be learning in class this month and upcoming highlights to mark in your calendar!

We'll see you next class!

Sincerely,
Melissa

"The Cleanest Town in Texas"
Yee-haw!  This month, our "Cleanest Town in Texas" casts will be livin' it up in the Wild West!  We'll be learning a song for our show and transforming into cowboys and cowgirls from head to toe. Our focus this month will be on putting our speech skills into practice as we decide how our characters talk and express themselves. Projection, articulation, and confidence are key!

"The Grasshopper and the Ants"
This month, our "Grasshopper and Ants" casts will be diving into their characters, memorizing their lines, and learning new blocking! We'll be using this time in class to enhance our voices for the stage. Projection, articulation, and emotional expression will be our key focuses as we learn our lines for our Spring Performance!

"Murder at Mornington Manor"
This month, our "Murder at Mornington Manor" cast will be challenging our memorization, developing detailed characters, and incorporating blocking into our storytelling. We'll be focusing on how projected and expressive voices can shape a story. Our goal will be to incorporate sincerity into larger-than-life, melodramatic characters!
Performed by:  Jefferson Elementary Upper Primary, Baker Elementary Upper Primary, Robinson Elementary, Baptist Preparatory School, LISA Academy Chenal

Yee-Haw!  We're saddlin' up to head out to the Wild West to the sleepy town of Abilene, Texas!  Nothing exciting EVER happens here until a sassy and sweet little lady named Lulubelle rolls into town and stirs up the townsfolk.  When the town swindler, Jake, gets wind of this, it gives him an interesting idea!  What will the townsfolk do when they get wind of this idea? Is this the end of the line for Lulubelle and Jake?  You certainly don't want to miss out on this rebel rousin' performance!
Performed by:  Baker Elementary Lower Primary, Chenal Elementary, Forest Heights STEM Academy, Jefferson Elementary Lower Primary

Hurry, hurry, hurry!  The ants are ready to get to work!  They MUST use their time now in the summer to prepare for the upcoming winter season.  Just as they are hustling to get to work, fun-loving Grasshopper shows up, mocking the ants for their hard work.  As winter arrives, Grasshopper learns just why those ants were working so hard gathering food for winter!  What will happen to Grasshopper?  Will the ants come to his rescue when he needs it?  Come to our performance to find out if Grasshopper learns his lesson of when to work and when to play!
Performed by:  Maumelle Middle School Acting Academy
