Maldon & District Financial Services

"Proudly Supporting our Communities"

Community News

It’s been a tough summer with bushfires affecting much of Australia.  Bendigo Bank quickly launched its Bushfire Disaster Appeal, in partnership with various organisations and government, to assist communities with immediate relief and long-term recovery. At the time of writing, over $40 million has been donated to the Victorian appeal alone.

We were impressed with the Baringhup Community’s contribution to the Bushfire Appeal, courtesy of their mammoth garage sale in February. Garage sale organiser Nicole Farnsworth is pictured here depositing the funds at our Maldon Branch, assisted by staff member Kyle.

Other community groups, individuals and businesses around the district have also made generous contributions to many bushfire fundraisers and appeals - a testament to our community's spirit and generosity.

All donations to the appeal of $2 or more are tax deductible, and you can come into any of the branches of Maldon & District Community Bank Branch (Maldon, Newstead or Dunolly), or any other branch of the Bendigo Bank to make your donation. You can find out more about the appeal and donate online at  www.communityenterprisefoundation.com.au

New shelving at Maldon Athenaeum Library

$150K Grants Program - Project Update

We have a long and proud history of supporting the Maldon Athenaeum Library. We've helped with air conditioning, literary events, library bags and shelving. It was our pleasure as part of our 20th birthday grants to provide funding for new bookshelves for the beautiful addition to the library.  We were impressed to learn that the library has over 19,500 books - that's a lifetime of reading!

The grand opening in March saw renowned Castlemaine author Carmel Bird officially open the new room.

New pistes for Maldon Petanque Club

There was plenty to celebrate at the Maldon Petanque Club recently. Thanks to some hard yakka from the Maldon Men's Shed, community partnership funding from the Maldon & District Community Bank Branch, a shire community grant and state government funding, the club has been able to fund new pistes, picnic tables, umbrellas for shade and uniforms.

Meet the makers Arts Open

The biennial Arts Open has one more weekend of open studios (14-15 March) around the Mount Alexander Shire - including heaps to see in Maldon and Newstead.

It's well worth a ramble around to see wonderful local art and to meet the creatives behind the art. There's still time to wander around the district and take in local studios and galleries, meet the artists and even purchase works directly from the artists.

The Community Bank Branch at Newstead is a proud sponsor of the Newstead Open Studios Art Trail - with 11 studios in and around the Newstead, Green Gully, Sandon and Strangways districts.

Celebrating Australia Day

Community celebrations took place in Dunolly, Harcourt and Maldon to celebrate Australia Day on 26 January.

Maldon's Board Chairman Ross Egleton was on hand at the Tarrangower Community Celebrations in Maldon to present the Youth of the Year award to Nuggetty resident Flinders Greentree (and a handy prize of a $100 bank account).

Flinders is a brilliant horseman and very worthy recipient of the award.

We were also pleased to lend a hand to Nuggetty Land Protection Group's (NLPG)'s free plant giveaway, presenting indigenous plants at the Australia Day celebrations in Maldon.

Easter in Maldon

It's always exciting to celebrate Easter in Maldon, with plenty of fun for everyone.

The Maldon & District Community Bank Branch is thrilled to be the major sponsor of the MCDFNL Good Friday Game at the Bill Woodfull Reserve in Maldon. Come along to watch great local footy and netball, with Maldon FNC and Newstead FNC vying for the Community Bank Good Friday Trophy.

Maldon is proud to claim that we have one of Australia's longest running Easter Fairs. The annual parade - the 143rd Maldon Easter Parade - is on Monday 13 April, at 10.30 am. It is a highlight of the Easter festivities, and we can attest that is the best fun watching the parade as it travels (twice!) around High and Main streets.

 Hole-in-one competition

Try your luck at the Maldon Golf Club's annual Easter hole-in-one competition - for the serious and amateur golfers, and those just happy to try their luck.

There's a guaranteed $2,000 prize for the hole-in-one (or for the winner of a play off if more than one hole-in-one is achieved), courtesy of the Maldon & District Community Bank Branch. There are other prizes on offer, and entertainment for the kids each day over the weekend with Easter egg hunts at 2 pm.

Pop up to the club from 10.30 am - 4 pm over the Easter weekend to try your luck and support this fundraiser for the Maldon Golf Club.  Print or show this card for bonus balls for the competition.

 Free training for community groups

The Mount Alexander Shire Council has a number of free workshops lined up in 2020 for community groups. The first of these is on Wednesday 25 March, from 9.30am - 12.30pm in Castlemaine.

The first workshop is relevant to so many of our region's community groups - how to attract, cultivate and celebrate your volunteers.

Book your spot for this event at www.eventbrite.com.au
