Spring Planting Initiative

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” - Chinese proverb

New Leaf Tree Services is excited to announce our spring bare-root tree planting initiative! In this era of climate change, we consider it imperative to encourage and facilitate the planting of new trees within our community. This program is intended to make available the planting of deciduous trees at reasonable cost to our clients in an effort to increase the long-term environmental benefits that trees provide.

Species offered:

Sugar Maple (Acer saccharem)

White Oak (Quercus alba)

Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)

Paper Birch (Betula papyrifera)

Redbud (Cercis canadensis)

Weeping Willow (Salix babylonia)

Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia)

American Beech (Fagus grandifolia)

Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis)

Quaking Aspen (Populus tremuloides)

For a short description of each species, please visit newleaftreeservices.com/spring-planting-initiative.

Each planting will include:

  • Planting of bare-root sapling three to four feet tall.
  • Loosening of soil around the roots to encourage strong lateral root growth.
  • Mycorrhizal root dip to inoculate roots with beneficial fungi that assist with absorbing nutrients and water.
  • Activated biochar & freshwater humate mixed into backfill to create good soil structure, enhance active soil biology, and increase water-holding capacity of soil.
  • Natural wood-chip mulch to retain soil moisture and add organic matter to the soil.
  • Tree grow-tube (made in USA from recycled materials) and wooden stake. These “tree tubes” are 5-foot-tall cylinders that are placed over each sapling and provide protection from deer and rodents, while also encouraging a strong upward growth pattern.

Pricing information:

1 to 4 trees: $50 each

5 to 14 trees: $47.50 each

15 or more trees: $45 each

There is a fee of $30 added to each order for an initial site visit and consultation to discuss species selection and placement, as well as delivery of equipment and materials on the day of planting.

For more information or to place an order, please call our office at 518-526-6675. Or you may email us (address listed below). A deposit of 50% is required for every order, with final payment due once your trees have been planted. Orders must be received by March 15th. Availability of trees is subject to change depending on available nursery stock.

Thank you for joining us in this initiative!

Benefits of planting bare-root:

  • Trees that are planted bare-root are typically much less expensive than container grown or balled and burlapped trees.
  • The roots of a bare-root tree have developed in their natural manner without the restricting influence of containers walls.
  • Because there is no soil included with the root mass, and they are transplanted while dormant, much more of the root system is able to be moved, and less transplant shock is experienced.
  • Bare-root trees are frequently more successful in the long term, as their roots are able to develop and acclimate to the soil from a younger age.
  • Because bare-root trees have more root mass, and acclimate to the soil sooner, they typically grow much more in their first few seasons than container grown trees.

Although these bare-root trees are small when planted, they allow us the opportunity to plant in much larger quantities, and in a way that is quite beneficial to the long-term growth of the tree. Structural pruning can be performed along the way to encourage solid branch connections, desired shape, and a strong central leader. Larger planting projects can be considered to transition unkept areas that are hard to manage back towards forested land.

New Leaf Stone Masonry
New Leaf Stone Masonry has a new website! Come visit us at NewLeafStoneMasonry.com and learn more about stone mason and craftsman Lee Coalter and what we do.
This project included designing and constructing a new 20x20 studio to provide additional family space on the property, as well as a sauna! We worked with the Hudson Historical Commission so the building adhered to all local zoning codes.
The stone masonry features hand hewn quarried wall stone, with a combination of thermal bluestone, natural cleft bluestone, and irregular bluestone
making up the patios and tiered steps.

Led by stone mason and craftsman Lee Coalter, we specialize in old world, hand-hewn methods as well as modern mechanical means. Every installation is a carefully executed, engaging work of art.
