Executive Unveils Theme of 2020 Conference
We are pleased to announce that the theme for the 36th Annual Directors’ Forum will be “Trust and Confidence in Governance Oversight.”
The conference, taking place from October 15 – 17th, will examine a variety of topics aimed at strengthening the confidence of credit union and caisse populaire Board Directors, when it comes to making important decisions around governance issues.
Plenary sessions will be presented in varying formats, including presentations and panel discussions, and two simultaneous breakout sessions will take place – one specifically for Board Chairs and Vice-Chairs, and the other for all other delegates.
While the sessions and guest speakers are in the process of being developed and confirmed, participants can expect a similar program agenda to the 2019 conference, including a welcome cocktail reception on the 15th, the Annual General Meeting and conference sessions on Friday, and the half-day CUDA credit session on the Saturday morning.
Delegates will return to the same venue as last year’s conference - the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale. The overall feedback of the facility based on delegate evaluations was very positive, and returning for at least one more year has enabled the DF to keep the costs down, and the Forum more accessible to Directors across the province. For this reason, the registration fee will also be the same as 2019!
This year’s agenda will also include even more networking time than previous years, with an extended scheduled 30 minute refreshment break, as well as ending earlier on the Friday afternoon. Once again, there will be no Banquet, and delegates are expected to make their own dinner arrangements both Thursday and Friday evenings.
We will reveal more about the fall conference as details are confirmed. The Executive continues to strive to provide participants with content and learning opportunities that are current and relevant to their needs as credit union and caisse populaire Directors. For this reason, delegate feedback has been carefully reviewed and considered, and changes and additions to the program are being made accordingly and within our capacity.

Accommodations
The accommodation rates for this year’s conference is $165 + HST per room night for a standard room. This includes free WIFI in all guestrooms, as well as complimentary parking. This is a special group rate that is only available until either the block is full or the deadline of September 22nd, whichever comes first.
As it is not the responsibility of the Directors’ Forum to book accommodations for our delegates, we strongly encourage you to reserve your rooms earlier than later – you can always cancel if need be, but the low group rate will not be available indefinitely. Learn more about what’s available at the venue and what attractions are nearby, online.
The conference venue is located approximately 20km from Pearson Airport, and costs about $50 by cab. To make it easier for our delegates travelling by plane, the Executive is looking into providing transportation from the hotel to the airport after the conference wraps up on Saturday, October 17. Stay tuned for more information!

Welcoming Directors from Across Canada!
This year, the Executive is pleased to extend the invitation to credit union and caisse populaire Board Directors beyond Ontario. What better way to share best practices and experiences and connect with new Directors than to go beyond our borders? Please feel free to pass on the word through your networks and to share the invitation at the upcoming national conferences!

Please Support Director Education
By now, many of you will have received a request from us asking for your organization’s support of the 2020 conference. Our initial request was sent out in October 2019 - a lot earlier than in past years, in an effort to better match some of your budgeting cycles.
We are very pleased that to date, seven amazing organizations have responded to our outreach efforts and have confirmed their sponsorship of this year’s Forum!
The DF still needs YOUR SUPPORT to make the conference possible. Your funds go directly towards the planning and execution of the conference, and help us keep the registration rates at a more affordable and accessible level, year after year. Most importantly, supporting the Directors’ Forum is an investment in the professional development and continuing education of Ontario’s credit union and caisse populaire Board Directors. The end result is a stronger and healthier system as a whole.
Please check out our Sponsorship Opportunities document to see how you can help, and how we can recognize your organization for its generosity!
