Welcome to the UKSIC Insider

Hello and welcome to the UK Safer Internet Centre Insider. Every month we will bring you the latest stories and updates from the three partners in the UKSIC: Childnet International, The IWF (Internet Watch Foundation), and SWGfL (South West Grid for Learning).

Please be aware, our scheduled Online Safety Live events taking place in Wales this week have now unfortunately been cancelled. We will be looking to reschedule them in the foreseeable future. 
IWF launches #Every5Minutes campaign

For too many children, the ordeal of sexual abuse doesn’t end when the abuse stops. The recording, viewing and sharing of countless images online means victims suffer humiliation and misery every time someone clicks on a photo or video of their abuse. IWF’s team of world-class analysts work tirelessly to beat the harmful side of technology by harnessing cutting-edge tools to stop this cruel abuse.

IWF is calling on companies, organisations and individuals in Cambridgeshire, and further afield, to support this crucial work through membership, charitable partnership or by donating.

SWGfL unveils 10th annual 'State of the Nation' Report into Online Safety 

Every year, SWGfL compiles an annual report highlighting the state of UK schools' online policy and practice using the award-winning 360 Degree Safe tool.

The report was composed by Professor Andy Phippen of Bournemouth University who has assessed data from more than 11,0000 education settings and brought forward his findings and statistics.

Young people call on government to create an internet where they are #freetobe

For Safer Internet Day 2020 Childnet, partners in the UK Safer Internet Centre, has worked with young people to develop a Young People’s Charter on how government can help make a more inclusive internet where everyone is #freetobe themselves.

On Safer Internet Day Digital Champions from the Childnet Digital Leaders Programme, met with over 25 MPs to unveil the Young People’s Charter at Westminster. They explained to Ministers that they want help to make the internet a place where all young people are free to be themselves, and how the Government can help.

Safer Internet Day bigger than ever

Tuesday 11th Feburary saw the celebration of Safer Internet Day across the world in over 170 countries, with the theme in the UK of ‘free to be: exploring identity online’. Over 1,700 organisations across the UK delivered activities for the day, including schools, police forces, government, companies, football clubs, charities and others. Help us to understand how your school gets involved in online safety, in particular Safer Internet Day and how we can improve our support for schools in future years by taking this survey https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PRBD8BF

Throughout the day it was inspiring to see the impact of Safer Internet Day on social media. On Twitter the #SaferInternetDay hashtag trended at number one in the UK throughout the day, accompanied by the hashtag emoji. The #freetobe campaign also trended on the day with young people across the country sharing their offline templates decorated with the things they wish everyone was free to be online.
