Turning dirt on a modernized Sánchez Elementary
More than 300 people showed their East Austin pride and celebrated the groundbreaking at Sánchez Elementary on Feb. 20. The event began with a student parade from Metz to Sánchez, led by the Northeast Early College High School Drumline.
Principals García and Castillo thanked the community for their ongoing support that has helped the co-located schools to thrive. Superintendent Paul Cruz acknowledged the vision, planning, and hard work—not to mention the $25 million investment—that will bring bright, modern learning spaces to Sánchez Elementary.
The project is part of the 2017 Bond Program approved by Austin voters. Construction will begin this spring, and the modernized school will welcome students in time for the 2021-22 school year.
