A Different World

What a strange few weeks it has been. Our world as we know it has been turned upside down in the last 3 weeks. It's been hard not to get caught up in the stress, fear and uncertainty of what's to come. That's why for the April newsletter we are sharing some of the unlikely positives that are happening in the world.

1. Because of travel restrictions and people staying at home, CO2 and NO2 emissions have dropped majorly. Could something hopeful come from something so destructive? Check out the Guardians article.

2. Community spirit has been re-ignited throughout the world. On social media, we are seeing people singing from their homes, working from their balconies and clapping for the amazing medical staff on the frontline during this pandemic. Check out this fabulous video by the women of B Corporations if you need a lift!

3. Support for the elderly and vulnerable has been incredibly important during this time. We are seeing supermarkets and retailers opening at specific times for the elderly and local shops and volunteers dropping off supplies to their elderly neighbours. Visit the HSE, ALONEFriends of The Elderly and IVol.ie to get involved or share with a loved one who might need it.

4. Take time out to simplify life. All our busy schedules have suddenly been put on hold and we're spending more time with our children. Now has never been a better time to connect with your community and yourself, start that new hobby or get out in the garden. There are some brilliant free resources online. Here are some free sites to get you started.

Things to Check Out

1. As apart of International Women's Day, Sarah was invited to chat to Angela Mezzetti on her podcast Women In Leadership. She talks about small yet impactful steps businesses and homes can take to improve our planet. Take a listen here.

2. The CUSP App is planning to help individuals to combat single-use plastic to just 350gs per month for an individual. If you cut out your single-use plastic by 350g per month than that is all it takes to eliminate all non-essential single-use plastic packaging by 2030. Check out Diluteze for more information.

3. Get ready for Earth Week with Earthology. Earth Day is on the 22nd of April and Ireland's Earth Overshoot Day is on the 26th of April. We still have some slots for online talks and workshops. We are running a lighthearted and interactive free webinar, on Earth Day, on Greening your home office - Top 10 Tips, register here. You can also get involved in a #digitalstrike.
