Making School Response Plans
School leaders are encouraged to update their school safety plans to include steps the school will take before, during, and after a potential case of the coronavirus on campus. The Center for Disease Control has developed a list of recommendations for schools. The CDC advises that school plans should include:
- Strategies for reducing the spread of infectious disease (with an emphasis on common preventative actions like handwashing, staying home when ill, etc)
- Clear communication plans for sharing information with the school community and other community partners
- Procedures for responding to students or staff who become sick while at school
- Procedures for regular cleaning of common spaces
Washington State's Department of Health has also develop recommendations for school administrators which may be helpful.
