The journey for many of these artists started at an early age or later in life.  It was by accident or the process of creative growth.  Their journeys have been a discovery of talent and a life’s work.

Carlos Aparicio was born in Hayward, California and is currently based in Fresno. His interest in becoming an artist began in high school when he was introduced to the graffiti scene in Fresno. He began following famous street artists such as Jason Revok and Shepard Fairey. After attending the Multimedia Program at the Center for Advanced Research and Technology, Carlos gained an interest in the world of art and design. He pursued a career in Graphic design and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from California State University Fresno.  Throughout his college years, he worked as a freelance graphic designer to help fund his student expenses. Carlos continues to work as a graphic designer creating abstract and representational illustrations. It wasn’t until his last semester of college when he took an oil painting class, that he realized that he wanted to become a painter. He is currently experimenting with different styles and working on refining his techniques. His current work strives to express emotions through his luminous portraits of female figures. Carlos has exhibited in several shows in California and has recently displayed his work in Mexico City.

"Carolyn considers her art an abstract expression of her life and as a form of therapy and loves the feeling of a pen in her hand moving on a blank piece of paper. Carolyn was diagnosed first at age 14 with “nerves” then later with “manic depression” and eventually as “bipolar” at age 38. She is a champion for others suffering from mental illnesses and participates in many online support groups while sharing networks focused on removing stigma and sharing experiences. She feels her art is an expression of her mind, soul, and how she sees the world around her. This allows her to view the world in a different way. Her art is her language. See Carolyn's ArtHop exhibit at CMAC on Thursday, March 5 from 5pm to 8pm and throughout the month of March."

"A Quality of Quiet”
Shannon Bickford/Solo Exhibit

Join us to experience this intriguing body of work
on ArtHop 1st Thursday, March 5 from 5-8pm
Second Saturday, March 14 from Noon-3pm

Gallery 25 presents a Solo Exhibit by Gallery 25 member, Shannon Bickford called "A Quality of Quiet". In this series of watercolor and mixed still lifes, Bickford captures a quality of quiet with the strong unidirectional light reminiscent of early morning or evening, claiming that it is the stillness of quiet that invites us to heed whispers otherwise masked by the bustle of a brightly lit day. In the quiet we can listen, reflect and gather inspiration.

The month of March will be very busy at Studio 74.  South valley artist OMAS will be showing his long anticipated and much delayed works entitled "Creatures of Folklore", all month of March at the gallery, located at 1274 North Van Ness Ave in Fresno's Tower District.  The opening is March 5th during Art Hop.

OMAS is a self-described Neo Street Expressionist, and describes his work as "Not fine art, but not street art either.  It's somewhere in the middle."

The works are colorful vibrant expressions of primal depictions of such creatures as the Chupacabra, Big Foot, Nessie the Loch Ness Monster.

He will be showing 7 original works he described as an "OMAS, Basquiat, Picasso, Warhol smoothie."  You can be the judge of that.

Studio 74 will be an “Artist Underground Venue” for the Rogue Performance Arts Festival and will feature performances by Rogue favorites Les Kurkendaal and Blake Jones.

 “Climbing My Family Tree”, by Les Kurkendaal can be seen March 6th @ 7, March 7th @ 8, March 11th @ 7, March 12th @ 7 and March 13th @ 8:30.

Performances by Blake Jones can be seen March 13th @ 7 and March 14th @ 3. The Rogue Festival is followed by the third Thursday Art Hop on March 19th at Studio 74.  We hope you will join us!

About the artist:

I am a local based artist. I have achieved my bachelors degree in fine art at Fresno State University in 2006. During my absence from painting I explored different art forms that include film and music. I explore Sci‐fi themes in my current artwork. I have been influenced by Surrealism, Cubism, Futurism and Abstract Expressionism. In my creative process, I start with a sketch, I paint with thin layers of oil and I let the painting dry for some time. Onto the next phase of the process I begin to erase by sanding down layers of oil paint. In some cases taking an opportunity to form and create a move that wasn’t originally from sketch. It is a critical point in the painting process that I admire. In some cases a painting can reach a point where its near completion and then it is erased and reworked.
