Be prepared for potential spring flooding
- Consider flood insurance (takes 30+ day to be in effect, so act now!). Contact your home-owner's or renter's insurance carrier. If you live in a floodplain, learn about the National Flood Insurance Program by visiting FloodSmart.gov
- Have battery back-up on-hand for sump pumps
- Elevate basement items now
- Check-in with family and neighbors, especially the elderly and special needs.
- Sign up for CodeRED at FloodingInBC.com for flooding alerts
- Have an evacuation plan. Click here to determine roads in your area that are less likely to be flooded. If your street is flooded, others in your area may flood as well. Plan your route in advance to avoid flood-prone streets.
- Have a plan for your pets in case you have to evacuate. I.E. board them or make sure they can come with you wherever you stay.
- Have medications, clothes, and important papers (health insurance card, homeowner's insurance contacts) ready to take with you.
- Create an emergency contact list.
