Dear Parents,

Today I am meeting with many of the maintenance/facility directors of the largest school districts in Oregon. A big part of the day is discussing how they plan to combat the Coronavirus in their respective districts.

Along with our faculty and staff, we are keeping a close eye on the best practices that are being developed every day. I have met with our faculty and while they already employ a good process of daily disinfecting, we are all taking it up a notch. All of our faculty are expanding the frequent cleaning to common areas and increasing the frequency of cleaning inside their classrooms. They are also all educating their students on the importance of being thorough and proactive in their habits, especially with hand washing.

We will employ any necessary plan to help keep our facilities clean for our students. Be reminded that we can clean, but if a student sneezes or coughs on others, all the disinfecting we’ve done becomes irrelevant. So, there is NO sure-fire method to keep a building clean at every minute of the day. But you can be assured that we are doing everything within our control to keep things disinfected by frequent wiping of all surfaces.

We ask you continue this messaging with your child, monitoring hand washing and disinfecting at home. Obviously, our school policy regarding sickness at school needs to be judiciously followed.

As always, please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Blessings,
Clay Swanson

TEACHER FEATURE

My name is:  Brenda Buckner
I teach:  High School English and Literature, Creative Writing, and Biology

About me:  I love to read, of course. I also enjoy quilting because it gives me the chance to create with design and color without exposing my inability to draw or paint! My family and I enjoy kayaking and paddle boarding together as well.

My education: B.S. in Biology from George Fox University.
M.A. in Literature from University of California, Santa Cruz

Years teaching:  16  Years at CSLA:  12

Fun fact about me:  I'm a nerd about two things:  books and science fiction (Star Wars & Star Trek in particular). I also have an embarrassingly large collection of Converse... Ok, eleven pair isn't that many, but it's more than I need!
